XC 40 alternatives

I'm thinking about an XC40 on a 3 year lease... Just wondering what people thought of the alternatives out there. So far the Tiguan is the big competitor so far as I can see. X1 lease rates are much higher, and I don't have a lot of love for the Q3 or GLA.
I'm not totally set on the engine, but probably the T3 or D3 - the car will mostly be used by my wife around town, with 40 odd motorway miles to the shops now and again.
Any thoughts?

The Skoda Karoq I believe is the same car as the Seat and is already available on tempting lease deals.
I think they were coming out at £2400 + 23x £107 for a DSG last time I checked.
Reviews seem good as well so probably where our money will go once our bargain Yeti lease is up.
An XC60 on a cheap lease remains the dream though....

Tiguan is indeed bigger - about the same to Lease. CX5 and Jag are both a fair chunk more. I rather like the CX5 though and if I were buying that's probably where my money would go.
That said the Volvo, to my eye, is handsome and I can have a top spec inscription pro T3 petrol for £300 or so a month. Not astonishing value against list, but it works for me and I think the missus will really like it.

Didn't realise the Inscription was available to order yet. I thought they were still chucking out the launch edition models which are crazy priced for the size they are.
So perhaps not as premium, but you did say you like the CX5, so....
Some very good deals on the Sportage (a size bigger I think?) - 2.0 CRDi KX-2 5dr 3+47 @ £280/month.

If you/your good lady could live with the 1.7d, you can get to £200/month or so, someway below that for the 1.6 petrol, which feels like a lot of car for the cash. Hyundai Tucson, which I think is the same car in a prettier frock, seems to be even cheaper.
The Mini Countryman Cooper S (if you guys can live with the looks) brings some of that premium feel and can be easily had for less than £250/month.
Similarly, the Peugeot 3008 can be had ~£200 - surprisingly nice inside and out IMO.
And you have the Honda HRV - similar pricing.
Just some left-field thoughts!

My parents had a Tucson on holiday - loads of kit and solid if a bit dull inside.
The draw, for me, of the Volvo is that it feels a bit like a car an architect might have. It's somehow interesting and I'm willing to pay a little more for that. (Can you tell - I'm talking myself into the Volvo no matter what).
The big concern with with the Volvo is the engine - is a 156hp petrol or 150hp diesel enough? I have a <1000kg, 250hp car for weekend jollies (often into Much Hadham in fact).

I can fully understand why the XC40 appeals so much - for me stylistically, it's ahead of its main premium competitors by quite some way, inside and out. First reports suggest its driving characteristics are somewhat less than sporty, but very much 'fit for purpose', which seems to make absolute sense to me.
I had an 2.0d X1 as a courtesy car not long ago, and I really quite liked that - and the forthcoming X2 looks really good to me, but I'm not sure they justify anything like the kind of lease price premium over the Volvo.
If the 150 engines are concerning you, I think they will also do a 190hp diesel, which should be a little more punchy - but the only way to tell of course will be to drive them - not sure when Marshall will have a demo available, but it won't be long I guess.

Cheers - yes, some XC60 D4 Momentums around the £300 mark. The XC40 is £310ish for an Inscription Pro (albeit T3).
I've read a review and seen Karoq prices and that's an option - for £265ish you can have 'Edition' trim which is loaded and undoubtedly where the smart money goes. I just fancy the Volvo - i've had an awful lot of VAG products over the years.
