Solving a car conundrum
Discussion
So, right now we have a LR4 HSE which is amazing in every single way, aside from the cost of the thing to run in fuel and so on.
We probably do 12k/yr in it, but neither commute by car. It's worth around 15k and we own it outright, but costs £500+ on VED and does 25mpg. For the most part we use it for carting the (tall) family around with the dog in the back and all is well.
However, we've been thinking about alternatives. I'm really keen on something electric (or maybe PI hybrid) as our every day car as we have a socket on the driveway and don't do long journeys. I reckon we can easily fit 99% of what we do in the car in something like a Leaf, but this obviously costs elsewhere (e.g buying the thing).
Trouble is, we have one or two times a year where we load up the car with 2-300kg and camping gear and then maybe cover 1k miles a week, which is where the electric (or other smaller car) would probably be useless. Right now we get this all in the car, but I'm guessing a trailer is an option too.
So, the question is, what would you do here? I like the idea of electric, but it'd require me to also own something else (maybe a 5k French MPV) to do the miles with a load once or twice a year.
Any ideas?

Different but what about Hybrid VW Passat GTE? Cheap deals floating around and would have over the leaf any day.

Look at the Advance model if you want a few bits on. Standard GTE doesn't come with Sat Nav but you do get Apple Carplay so can use google maps. Think there are also deals on the estate to cart your kit and family about.
