Here's the deal.

40yrs old, three kids under 10, family bus is sorted, time for some fun.

Total car nut (previously had M3s, 911s, etc) but have spent the past 10yrs focused on kids, houses, career, etc but circumstances mean I now have space for a toy but am totally stuck. Car will be a total weekend toy and most likely won't get driven a lot but time to be "cool dad" and burn the last of the world's oil reserves before we all go fully electric.

Must haves:
Manual
Rear wheel drive
Fun/challenging to drive

Practicality, mpg, etc don't even come into it.

Am at an age where driving a bright orange "look at me" Lambo is probably not for me but something quirky, different would be nice. GTR, 911s, AMGs, M3/4, etc just seem a bit 'obvious' (and not manual).

Budget is probably up to £70k.

Help!!??

PH Special - mx5 biggrin

In all seriousness though, could get a really nice Lotus Evora for that money, or a TVR Sagaris/Noble M12 as Tuvra suggested

C7 Corvette, as high spec as poss (z06?) and black/black if you want to look like batman. Running costs less than an obvious choice (m3/m4 etc) but so much more special on uk streets.

Aston V12 Vantage. Future classic and just doable for 70.

R8 V10. Think they did a manual early doors. Maybe not.

You won’t get any manual Fcar you actually want for 70 unfortunately. Not anymore.

997 GT3. But only car geeks will know what it is. As if that matters.

I keep thinking about getting back into something a bit more special but bought a 300 bhp BBR Mx5 earlier in the year and i’ve got to say, it’s a shed load of manual, rwd, slidey fun for buttons.

Different, quick & challenging.

How about a Ginetta? Range varies, from pretty much a slightly 'harder' MX5, right up to V8 Le Man type car. The company itself also offers a lot of motorsports driving programs for owners.

Lotus Elise or Exige.

I have an Elise Cup and it the most fun car I've owned. Pure driving, simple mechanics, doesn't cost the earth to run and glacial depreciation.

A mint Boxster Spider is easily within range and should hold its value.

Having said that I have a £12k VX220 Turbo and, to be honest, I don't think a more expensive car would be more fun, so there's a lot to be said for a nice, rare, Elise.

Or import a base model Shelby Mustang GT350:

The Link below is a review of the GT350R but the GT350 gets a lot of (that Voodoo V8 for starters) what the R has but without the huge mark up, I'm saving for an R & the prices keep rising. frown

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4f4q52J9qY

Here's a link for the GT350

https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=...

I haven't driven a base model but the R is something else a ball to drive every time I'm in the states I have to have a drive of my uncles one, how that exhaust ever got through the noise regs I'll never know, depending on where you are in the country there are certain Ford main dealers who are authorised to service them.

All the above will be fun/challenging to drive sorry if your brain now hurts, smile

Cayman GTS or Audi R8 V10 manual box.

Or up the budget and get a Cayman GT4, that will be my next car when my TTRS has gone.
