Petrol Estate/SUV Options
Discussion
I am looking at options for my next family car. Hoping to tick as many of the following boxes as possible:
- Petrol due to an annual mileage of approx 10k
- Reliable
- Comfortable
- Space for two kids
Budget of 10k-13k
I am considering the following:
- Skoda VRS estate (2.0 petrol)
- Honda CRV (2.0 petrol)
- Mazda 6 tourer (2.0 petrol)
- Mazda CX-5 (2.0 petrol)
- Audi A4 Avant (1.8/2.0 petrol) although in my budget they seem rare or are high mileage
Anything else worth thinking about?

+1 to the above that would be my first pick.

I'm in the same boat, wanting a petrol estate or medium sized SUV for Mrs Aussieal and it's slim pickings.
The Mondeo keeps getting mentioned, think I'll have to take a look at one over the Christmas break. I like it from the outside and the 2.0 eco boost figures look good, just not sure I can go back to Ford interiors.

95% of estates or medium sized SUV seem to be diesel. Must admit I have never really been a ford fan but as mentioned the options are limited! The Mondeo keeps getting mentioned, think I'll have to take a look at one over the Christmas break. What are these like as a all round estate is looking more favorable atm and this is on my list to look at!
I have to say theyre a cracking allrounder. Mine has been mapped so pretty quick. What are these like as a all round estate is looking more favorable atm and this is on my list to look at!
Returns 40mpg on a run without difficulty.
Its taken me plus wife and 3 kids camping, up to Scotland, across europe. We've even been to Iceland (no not the chavvy supermarket
) in it.Its done a little bit of gentle offroading (shoot tracks) and handled everything with ease.
Petrol Scouts are extremely rare, a shame Skoda decided to fit the new MkIII Scout with a diesel engine only.
If looking for a MkII petrol Scout read this first, the 1.8 TSi engine can have a thirst for oil...

Yes i read that before i got mine. I believe there were a couple of chocolate parts on the engine from the factory. Timing chain tensioner and diverter valve iirc. I had both parts upgraded on mine as a precaution. Its been fine so far (ive done 50,000 miles since ive owned it)If looking for a MkII petrol Scout read this first, the 1.8 TSi engine can have a thirst for oil...
