I know everyone hates a what car thread, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything and suggestions are much appreciated.

I'll set the scene next month or some point during this month i will be finding out if I get the engineering apprenticeship I applied for if so then I am down to £3.50 a hour for the first year.

I have just sold my DC2 and currently driving a pd100 fabia around was given to me but it's past best windows don't work, neither do heaters, due belts, 100% going to get slaughtered on next MOT in January, so it's lead me to look for something else requirements are as follows:

Petrol/Diesel reliability is key

Only covering 250 miles a week but cheaper to run the better would like 35mpg+

I'm only 23 so something that's not a gold Skoda fabia would be nice something shot better to look at.

Reliability is key.

Would like a bit of fun but not nessecery

Budget up to 5k rather keep costs low though

Shortlist so far is:

Polo bluemotion 2009, free tax, uber mpg, decent ones had for 2k

Audi a3 s line 08+, nicer, more to go wrong though.

Civic eg6 if I can find one, fun, my old one never broke and wasn't too bad on fuel.

Micra 1.0, cheap, little cockroach, disposable, look silly

If you want a reliable set of wheels that won't break the bank with running costs & purchase price take a look at the Grand Punto in either T Jet petrol form:

Sporting T Jet

Or in in diesel form:

Sporting 1.9d

As you can see they come in well under budget & are easy to maintain both engines are reliable but the 1.4T might be more suited to your needs.

The T-Jet is a good shout. I had one. In 18months cost me a clutch, and a spring.

Here's a carpool thing I did on mine.

Mk7 Fiesta? Look good, cheap to run and fun to drive:

1.6TDCi Zetec S

or a 1.6 petrol Zetec S

or even a 1.0 ecoboost (although it is cat D)

What have a missed here?

£3.50 an hour? Is that even legal?

Surely 250 miles a week would nearly outweigh your salary?
