Arval and Excess Mileage Charges
Discussion
Hi all, my car leased with Arval was collected last week with an excess of 3700 miles over and above the contracted mileage of 10000. My contract states an excess mileage fee of 9.360p per mile, but their sundry invoice is for £710.21, indicating an excess mileage fee of around 19.2p per mile.
I’ll be calling them tomorrow, however I was just wondering anyone had any experience of this happening?

Are they lumping 'damage' costs in with the excess mileage perhaps?
No, it’s very clear on the invoice that it is just excess mileage, plus no damage was recorded on the collection report. I’ve established that I have two instances of correspondence where the excess mileage fee is stated as 9.36p and most importantly, on the contract I signed with them. You should have received a costed Vehicle inspection report, both at the time of inspection/vehicle collection, and then again later by email with images of your vehicle and odometer reading at the time of collection, and details of any damages and costs that will be incurred, including any abort fees.
the excess mileage charges would come straight from the lease company in accordance with whatever paperwork you agreed to and signed with them.
damage and mileage do not get bundled together as this would be transparent to you.. the end customer.

Yeah, I had the vehicle report upon collection via email. Mileage was recorded, no damage listed.the excess mileage charges would come straight from the lease company in accordance with whatever paperwork you agreed to and signed with them.

Like I said, this invoice just states excess mileage to the tune of £710. It doesn’t list any rate at which that is calculated. By my reckoning, at 9.36 pence per mile (incl. VAT), as stated in my contract, the charge should be £346.
I noticed the same on my Golf R with Arval 2 months in, just called them and they changed it to the 9p.
How long did it take to get the invoice?
Mine was only a few miles over as not used it in 4 months (due to their crap early termination policy), but will see if it was actually changed.
Will not be using Arval and Vehicle Savers again...

Funny you should say that, because I would have serious reservations about using Arval again. It took almost two months to take my initial payment, and I was subsequently hit with a number of double payments. I cancelled my direct debit immediately after the last payment was made to ensure they didn't erroneously take further payments. And as you say, their termination policy is poor. How long did it take to get the invoice?

My experience with Vehicle Savers was fine to be honest, so no problem with them.
My vehicle was collected on the 13th December and I received the excess mileage invoice on the 21st December.
I've called them this morning and they have asked me to email them my Hire Agreement, which I have done. They confirmed that the rate they had on my vehicle was 16.2p Ex. VAT, however I have several instance of correspondence where the 9.36p Inc. VAT rate is stated.
So after some toing and froing today this has been resolved. There was no explanation as to why my car was put on a much higher rate, and they initially countered by trying to charge VAT on the 9.36p stated on my Hire Agreement, but thankfully I had an email from the broker stating that it included VAT, so the cost that I had expected has been agreed.
Only lesson in this is keep every bit of correspondence during the process.
