Need some opinions. Need a new car and I like Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost 16 plate titanium but the other half wants a Vauxhall Astra with a similar spec. I know the comparison between Astra and fiesta isn’t great as it should be fiesta against corsa but we both agree neither of us like the Corsa. I haven’t driven either yet but just wanted some opinions from anyone who has driven both or own one of them and could give a review of and good or bad points. It will mainly be driven to and from her place of work each day around a 15 mile round trip and the occasional motorway drive. Is there any reason not to buy either. I always thought ford was a better car than a Vauxhall but looking at the newer models there doesn’t seem much in it.
Had the 16 astra as a courtesy car for a while when my 14 Fiesta ST3 was in the garage. Theft damage
(So 1.6 vs 1.6)
Fiesta is alot lighter and nimble and imo a much nicer drive. very different cars though,
Astra is much nicer than i thought and much nicer than the corsa they tried to offer me. but nowhere near the Fiesta.

The fiesta has the 1.0 eco boost and the astra's seem to be 1.4 but the very new ones appear to be 1.0 as well but there doesn't seem to be much information on the 1.0 vauxhal engine to compare it with the fiesta. Price wise i would be looking at around the same price for each car and the astra's don't appear to be quite as higher spec. Not sure if one depreciates more than the other.

I've not driven the latest Fiesta but have driven a couple of the previous model and they drove well so would imagine the new shape to be even better.
My wife had a new Astra 1.4 as a hire car for 6 weeks and it was the worst car I've driven in a long while, even she hated it (no interest in cars) and managed to get it swapped after 6weeks to a Leon which was a far better car in every measurable way.
cheers

If they're similar spec then I'd probably go for the Astra just for the extra space, they're a decent steer & GVFM at the moment, another one worth considering is a Kia C'eed/Pro C'eed in 4/4 Tech/GT Line spec again they're a decent steer well spec'd & again GVFM.

The Fiesta will be the best steer of the three but only a test drive will tell you what suits you best.

so quick update.
Sent the gf to test drive the Astra and fiesta today on her own so I couldn’t influence her decision. She liked the Astra but said the fiesta was really nice as well, and so I’ve tracked down a 66 plate Ford Fiesta registered last January I think, so still has two years manufacturers warranty. It’s a 1.0 ecoboost titanium with all the gadgets and with full leather, heated seats and parking sensors added as extras when bought, with just under 10,000 miles for £10,555. Our local ford dealer couldn’t get near the price without the extras so going to test drive it on Saturday. Deposit down so it won’t sell before I arrive. Thanks for all the advice it was much appreciated!
