hello so i want to buy a car to do deliveries with and i thought this car is good it has no service history but low mileage but im not sure about it what do you guys think? i also dont want to spend more then £1000 as its only for work and this car has high mpg which is good and roadtax is not that expensive but for some reason the price is low compared to other c maxes for sale? im hoping that if i do buy it that it wont break down on me as i went to visit it today the dealership told me that theirs a fault with the power steering so their are fixing it so i couldnt see it

yes
Looks like its not been very well looked after, expect the absolute bare minimum maintenance-wise.

Doesn’t look like it’s been cared for but according to MOT history it hasn’t been clocked and there are no absolute shockers in there so... pot luck. Go and drive it. Make sure the engine idles and runs smoothly as any injector or DMF problems will eclipse all of your tax and MPG savings.

Doesn't look too bad for the money. I'm not sure I'd agree with the description of 'Very clean inside and out' but I always prefer to see a car before its been valeted.

Headlights are cloudy, it is absolutely filthy inside. Makes me wonder how it has been maintained if it looks that rough.

Definitely this one
It’s much cleaner and got lots of life left in it.
1 owner, FSH, new cambelt suggests it’s been cared for, it looks reasonable on the inside, cloudy headlights can be fixed for a tenner, some new badges, plates and a polish will get it looking great again.
If you’re handy try detailing it and get the wear and tear out of the bodywork , clean the engine bay and give it some fresh fluids and I can gaurantee that will be good as gold for at least another 100,000 miles whilst looking tidy as well. I think the C Max didnt deserve all the stick, they were good cars and budget £100 for the tidy up and you’ve got a great buy for £1100.

Hmm, 1.6 TDCI an engine not exactly known for being reliable.

I wouldn't go anywhere near that!

As above. The 1.6 diesel is a terrible engine known for turbo failure. A lot of turbo sellers will provide no warranty on a new turbo unless the engine is rebuilt/replaced.

I think it looks decent. Bearing in mind it’s a 13 year old family bus it isn’t a complete surprise that it needs a good clean. Based on the condition of the steering wheel and switchgear I think the mileage is genuine, the car would really benefit from a good valet. If it has had regular oil changes i would go for it.

Surely if your main use is deliveries (constant stop/start and low speeds etc) you need a small petrol engine vehicle?

(don't forget your business insurance as well!)

NO NO NO.

That 1.6 TDCI engine is a pile of ste, and to be avoided at all costs. Cheaper to go and buy a petrol.

The best option at this price point is a 120k Berlingo 2.0 HDI. Bomb proof engines and everything seems to be pretty good. Peugeot Partner is the same car. Don't be tempted to stray from this engine though. They really are very very good. (And map well)

Alternatively, what about an estate. 406 2.0 HDI estate for £400?

But please, don't get that C-max

We have just replaced a turbo on the hdi version, as mentioned above you have to do quite a lot of work to try and keep the warranty intact, that includes replacing most of the pipe work, washing out the intercooler, removing the sump replacing the strainer, a turbo supplied a fitted properly will cost you more than the car.

You then have dpfs (service item on the tdci) and need to use the correct oil every 5000 miles. The 406 hdi would be perfect for your needs (as posted above)

So you guys are saying 100% do not go near the 1.6 Tdci engine? I really liked the focus c max but if it's going to be a pain in the ass I rather not buy it but I don't know what else car to get... and petrol engines get about 30-35 mpg which I would want more so diesel would be a better choice I might still go for the focus c max but I'm having second thoughts now... the petrol c max gets 30mpg and road tax is £220 which is very expensive

Avoid anything that uses that ghastly PSA engine like the plague. You won't be saving money every time it eats another turbo or the DPF blocks up again.

Personally, i'd only go for a Ford Diesel of that age if it was the 1.8 TDCI which although based on a properly old engine, was fairly robust.

Previous posters have suggested sticking to the 2.0 HDI at this price point, and i'd agree. They just go on and on.

Diesel does not instantly mean better mpg's.
