Hi all, I’ve been resisting the itch for a new car for a little while now. I’m really torn between two very different approaches.

We will see IC engines getting smaller and smaller, more forced induction and more hybrids as we move to EVs. So, do I enjoy it while I can and go for a V10 R8 (spyder) and engine a big charismatic NA engine? Down sides are I think I’d use it as a very occasional car and it will spend a lot of time parked up. I’d probably go S-tronic to make it a little easier to use for nipping about as well as weekend blasts.

Or, do I go for an i8? They’re really quirky but I found it a really enjoyable car to drive (probably mainly for its quirkyness - which could become tiresome). It’s going to be less enjoyable on those perfect Sunday mornings, but I’m sure I’d use it far more for general use.

I know it’s hard to compare two such different cars but what’s people’s thoughts on both?

I've only driven the R8 V8 Rtronic which i hated, the i8 was nice but completely different to the R8, it was nicer inside and felt more special and the quietness appealed around town. But the engine noise sounded so fake and the finish of some of the composites looked untidy.

Out of the two the R8 V10 would be the one i would go for.

I am in the same predicament but have decided the R8 is more for me after a extended i8 test drive although I had discounted it before.

This thread explains if you havent seen it.
