Buying a Car with No V5C - (Was bought at auction)
Discussion
Hello PistonHeads!
So I don't know much about buying cars.
Found a good Cat S, appears to be in good condition, I've done a vehicle check, that is ok.
Then the guy says er there is no log book. We get these from an auction, sometimes they don't come with one.....
I'm like putting my money away but the car is good so I leave £50 pounds.
He explains that we both go to the post office together and he requests a New V5C by filling in a V62 form, in my name.
(They are a little underhanded because they don't want to increase the number of owners on the cars.) At that point funds swap.
Now after the shortest look on the internet, I've found out this is illegal
However, if I did want to good ahead, the offer is a fair trade for the car how exposed I'm I?
I guess I'm asking for advice, most on the net says don't bother however is there an alternative?
(I don't know this seller)
(This is an MOT Certificate )
Thanks in advance

Cat S cars don't usually come with V5s as they are held/destroyed by the insurance company. Most dealers selling them won't get a new V5 in their name and will wait until the car is sold to apply for the V5 in the new owners name so personally I wouldn't worry too much about the logbook situation. So I don't know much about buying cars.

What I would worry about is that you are buying a car that has been damaged structurally and "appears" to be in good condition - you really should go further than a cursory look at the car to ensure the repair has been done to the right standard.
