After 3 and a half year of Skoda Octavia humdrum, preceded by a Volvo V70 estate, midlife crisis strikes big time!!
I've got 6 grand to spend on anything I like, it needs to be an everyday commuter, reliable as it can be, considering it's age, and a hell of a lot more fun than my PCP'd Skoda which gets returned on Wednesday.
I'm taking Miss Type R Junior to her 1st Le mans Classic this year, so a car that's Le Mans/PH worthy is essential.
I had a new Integra Type R in 2000 which I kept for 10 years, then babies, life and growing old took it's toll. I've got a big F off motorbike for sts and giggles but I fancy a change, something a bit different, the Mrs has a decent car, Type R Senior is on her 1st car, so we don't need a Dad car any more.
The 350Z has always appealed and they're looking good value now, what do I need to look out for? are there any forums worth looking at?
Can you suggest any alternatives? I don't need 4 seats/doors and would prefer not to go too "mainstream"
Cheers,
Simon.

I looked at buying one a while back and mechanically they are quite sound. One point that I heard numerous times was that the interior is quite cheap and marks especially easily leaving nasty whitish scratches and scrapes.

Also there is the 500 odd quid a year road tax to consider. On the plus side though they look good and make a great noise.

Hells bells, I'd forgotten about the tax! The ONLY upside to Skoda ownership was 30 quid VED.
Big tax was one reason I discounted a 3 litre Alfa GTV....
Dammit, I'm trying to do this without spending a fortune. Plan C was an old Scimitar, not sure there's a plan B yet.
OK PH, help me out here, I'm not intending to pay the Gov't more than I have to.

Good luck with that, but I think you'll find it only speaks Japanese...

Some s2000 are lower tax if I remember right. 200 and something quid. Bit of a jekyll and Hyde engine though, you have to rev the bks of it to release the potential.

Also the market has picked up for these over the last 9 months and you will have to look hard for a good one for 6k. ( i considered buying one of these as well).

If that doesn't float your Boat then what about a turbo mx5. Although the tax is still £280 a year on mine (non turbo).

Yep, I'm used to that, my Type R was similar. Good shout though, off to trawl through Autotrader now.
Bon Soir.

For the price, nothing really matches it.

Regarding tax, it's really nothing in the grand scheme of things, but if you go for a pre-mid-06 tax is only £305 rather than £535. This does mean you're restricted to a DE engine, but you could look for an early facelift RevUp (better lights, different interior, extra 500rpm).

Check out the UK and US forums:

Or just a general Google search will bring up a surplus of guides etc.

As for the interior, you can always hydrodip or wrap it:

Not gonna get a decent S2K anywhere near 6k nowadays I am afraid, perhaps a tatty high mileage early one. They are strong money now.

They are very good cars, plenty of character and rare enough to be different and interesting. They are more mini-GT than sports car, so don't expect Intergra handling or a highly tuned revving engine. They are lazy muscle rather than high revving, although I think later ones rev better.

I sold my Azure blue UK car a couple of years ago for 6k, with 80k miles on the clock. They are very good value if you can find a clean well maintained one. An early 2.7 Cayman would be a better sports car, but cost twice as much to buy and more to run.

I had one for a month or so at the end of 2017.

They are nice cars, they aren't the fastest or the best in the bends but they are quite fun and very easy to get sideways. One thing I will say is in winter they can be quite twitchy if you aren't careful.

If you do decide you want one make sure you check the rear arches for rust as ALOT of them are now going rusty and apparently it's an expensive fix. You will have to look super close as it starts with very small dots of rust then spreads so make sure the car is spotless there.

6k will get you a nice one if you do decide to go for it.
