Not bought a car for a while so just after anyone filling in any missing pieces in my search for a new one.....

I haven't quite decided what to get as yet, possibly an ex demo or up to a year old. Budget of 25k, and will be paying close attention to CO2!

My shortlist for how to get a decent deal is:
Secondhand - Autotrader for secondhand then negotiate with dealer
New - Carwow then see if my closest dealer will match
Drivethedeal - as above

We will probably be buying outright for cash, but I understand some of the best deals (eg. manuf pays deposit) are only available if you take their PCP. This will be a company purchase so not sure if these offers are available to a business, and I also have a p/ex. Anything I've missed?

cheers

As an outright cash purchase you're best looking for a highly spec'd ex demo with less than 5k on the clock, then see if the contribution makes it worth signing up to PCP for 7 months, take a look at Motorpoint to see what they're selling the model you're interested for.

Do yyou have specific needs for the car & do you have a model in mind?

Petrol or diesel?

Look at what's out there then go to your main dealer to see if they can beat or match what you've already found.

Yep have my search on Autotrader saved. So I guess there isn't a better way than some old fashioned haggling - Carwow certainly produced some quotes that are cheaper for a new car than some of the used ones you listed however.

Yes but what spec were they last time I looked on Carwow for a Portfolio they couldn't beat the deal I'd haggled with my local dealer, but Carwow are good for lower spec cars.

On 25k i'm not going to get a Portfolio! Actually that name brings memories of yuppies in the city with a filofax screaming SELL into their 3kg mobile phones.

Whereas Prestige makes me think of pressure coookers.

I'm getting on a bit obviously - ideal fodder for a Jag. Thanks for the advice
