I've had a Cayman R for about 9 months or so now, it's a magnificent car in all regards....

Except for dealing with the back roads of London town where speed-bumps appear to be made solely for the purpose of making my face screw up into a contortion of horror every time I crawl over one at 3mph & STILL hear the scraping that haunts my dreams.

I can't take it no more... the car deserves better & should be released into the wild, where B-Roads are plentiful & I am not dying a little inside each time I have to negotiate the shambles of London town planning whenever I take it out.

So... what to replace it with.

SL63 AMG seems to be winning out, but I've not had opinions from those who've owned or driven them in anger yet. Anyone want to chip in & advise?

Seem to be plenty about for mid-£30k's, the R should fetch ~£40k-ish (White, 2012, PDK, PSE, Sports Chrono, Buckets, black Spider alloys, Bi-Xenons & ASK sound Plus on 37k) so it's much of a muchness in cash terms. Just want something that will be suitably different in regards to being an event to drive, but also different to the Porker so I don't compare like for like.

Thoughts?

Firstly they're a GT car secondly they're a GT car (I'm sure you've already sussed that out) they hardware is pretty much bulletproof but the roofs sometimes leak & they leak onto the central locking, but they're a good steer.

An alternative, admittedly it's bigger alternative but has the very 5.5TT V8.

Or if you want the bombastic 6.2 V8 you can have a nice lump of change in your pocket:

These are more than capable of wafting around London in comfort & then when you want to get a move on they can do that to.

Cheers - as the car is pretty much a weekend toy the practicality those offer doesn't really do much for me. Much rather something pointlessly quick & interesting.

Any decent buying guides for SL63's out there, or are they all much the same & focus on the potentially leaky roof?

Get a Cayenne Turbo great fun to drive. I call it the Jacked up slightly ugly 911. Plenty of haters out there but they've probably never driven one.

Can easily get 650 HP with little effort out of one. I had a SL63 AMG taken as a PX nice enough but a bit boring to drive compared to say a 911in many ways a cayenne turbo and plastic fantastic inside.

I know I mentioned the speed bumps but I don't think I need to be that drastic biggrin

Anyone know how much more clearance you'd see on a 981 Boxster compared to the R at all ? Might just need to tweak the version rather than abandon....

You seem to laugh a great deal at very mundane things. That's generally the sign of an idiot.

I have no need to drive a Cayenne.

The OP doesn't want one either.

How about a Bentley Continental GTC. Convertible, comfortable, quick when you want it to be but will hopefully ride over the roads you're driving on with poise.

Bit rude that? no need at all for that. Hardly Sporting randomly chucking sad little insults at someone on the internet.

My 981 has standard passive dampers and can easily clear most curbs with front bumper.
