Lease question manufacturer warranty?

As someone who has never leased a car before and is thinking about it, I'm not sure how this scenario would work.
If you take out a 48 month lease on a car which only has a 3 year manufacturer warranty, would it be down to me to pay the costs if there was a massive engine failure for example in year 4? This is an extreme scenario of course!
I just wondered how it works as I wouldn't "own the car" so not sure if it's down to lease company instead.

Yes it would be down to you. You could take it up with the lease company, but the it's pretty much down to you. I wouldn't run a lease outside of the warranty period.

48 month lease hires (PCH) are rarely ever good value for money, more so once you consider the cost of an extended warranty and an MOT.

Prob best sticking to 36 months max then.
Unless it's a Hyundai / Kia / Toyota with a decent warranty!

The conventional wisdom is to stick to 2 years.
No MOT. All in Warranty. No new tyres (hopefully). Maybe get away with one service only - or maybe none depending how you drive with a RBS system (like BMW for example).

Would you want to be running round in a Kia for 3 years???
