Autotrader Advert Date In URL

Chaps in order to see how long an advert has been on the trader is it in the URL like this

I assume this is 2/9/17 first put on sale? or am I totally wrong?

Is this date method always correct? Just wondering as a car I'm looking at the date is from May, 7 months ago and the price seems decent!

You can also check if the car has been taxed in this period by entering the registration here..

If I ever want to find out how long a car has been for sale or if it has been reduced, I find the aggregation site newsnow car search to be handy...

Also if you add a car to a saved search, you can then sort in order of advert age, so you know the ones further down have not shifted a while and a deal could be had.

My main thought is a car at a reasonable price that hasn't sold in 6 months probably has something wrong with it, it puts me off the idea of travelling 100 miles to see it.

I'd imagine that it depends on the car - the fact you're willing to travel a little way to see it would indicate it's not a shopping cart (so to speak) so it'll surely be more sensitive to concerns about brexit/election/etc

I'm having exactly the same thoughts at the moment - looking at an Octavia Scout that looks like just what I need at a reasonable price but it's been on sale since August. They generally don't hang around long so it is making me wonder if the trip over to Manchester would be a wasted one.

For all the advert is months old, the price may have been reduced since the original advert date.

And usually I’d guess it should mean that they should be open to cheekier than usual offers... trouble is with fine margins on second hand cars I’d bet there are quite a few that are happy to let the car sit there a while longer yet
