C6 A6 Avant Vs E61 5 Series Touring

One of those good old what car threads I need your help with. I have managed to get it down to 2 models but I am lost on what spec. I have been looking at the facelift versions on both models.
So long story short we are soon to be moving down to the Medway area and I will need to commute back to work into SE London everyday. For that reason it has to be a diesel auto, this car will be the main family car for days out, trips to the park, dog walks etc. We plan on keeping this for the next 5 years which will be an alien idea to me as I normally get itchy feet after 1 year. The plan is the estate will be complimented with a second car for thrashes etc at a later date. Which is something I have thought about for some time now.
I need your help on thw following:
1 - Is M sport suspension as crashy as S-line? I have had a few s-line spec Audis and I have found the suspension very crashy. I have only had 1 BMW a E46 318i Touring sport which was the best handling car I have owned but not an M sport.
2 - shaĺl I go for an SE spec? My thinking is this is just the family car, I just want to be comfy soaking up the miles, Tyres on the smaller wheels will be cheaper to replace to. Which will mean any saved money can go on the second car. Also the A6 will be cheaper on the old insurance to.
