Hi

Couple of questions about managing the used car purchase process:

1) If I look at a used car to buy and place a deposit, but then change my mind before seeing the car, is a deposit refundable?
2) If I look at a car with a serious intent to buy and ask the dealer to get the car inspected (which he pays for at the time) but pull out, is it reasonable and normal to be charged for the inspection + costs (fuel/time)?

Thanks

1) It's at the dealer's discretion on whether they return the deposit or not.

2) If you want an independent inspection then you would have to arrange and pay for it. The dealer won't pay for it.

Seriously?
Why don't you look at the car first before placing a deposit, it will save a lot of faffing about if you decide not to buy it.
A deposit is a commitment to buy, otherwise there is no point putting a deposit down.
A dealer is not going to pay for an inspection that you want on a used car.
Why would they?
This is your decision to have the car independently inspected so you will be the one paying for it.
