BMW 6 Series 640
Discussion
Hi Fellow Piston Heads,
I'm looking to buy a second car (already have a family SUV) for me to drive around and the options are a 2012/13 6 series coupe or convertible. I have seen 2012 640d coupe's go for around 16500 with about 60k miles and convertibles being around the 20k mark.
Has anyone got a 640 that could let me have their feedback? I would prefer a 640i to a 640d but they are so rare.
I keep seeing the same cars on ebay, PH, autotrader - they dont sell very fast at all but look very nice.
Thanks

Did 70k miles in one(640d Coupe) in just under 3 years, sold it last August and it is still for sale(85k miles on it). I love the shape and the engine is punchy right across its rev range, and it did 40mpg overall which I thought was excellent considering its performance/weight.
Its quite a big car so in car parks it can be a bit of a pain, I wasn't that keen on its steering(it's dead/remote) and the ride on 20" wheels with run flats was terrible. I swapped to none run flats and the ride improved vastly...but I suffered three punctures on normal tyres!
I think it's a cracking car for the money and it offers an excellent performance/economy mix, it's a lovely cruiser and it's shape/interior is lovely I reckon.

Thanks for the reply. Was it reliable over your 70k miles as I have had mixed feedback?
I'm on my third now,640d M Sport for mile crunching it's a nice place to be,I can regularly managed 50+ mpg which mpg to bhp is pretty good some times better than my i8..!! Very reliable over all had 2 issues with the EGR valves and an annoying seat rattle but neither a big problem.. Great cars imo..CRA1G said:

Thanks Craig.So two options:
2013 640d m sport convertible with a few nice extra's (HUD, Rev Cam, Soft Close, DVD TV) with 60k miles. He firstly accepted my offer of 19k but day after said its too low and wants 20k now. It also is in need of a service.
2012 640 d m sport coupe in alpine white with no optional extras but mint like the one above for £16500.
I do prefer the verti but the coupe is such good value for money.
Which would you go for?
I've got a 640i conv. Bought it with 14k on it, now on 80k. Nothing has gone wrong except a wheel cracked which cost £700 to replace one wheel FFS. MPG is 27 on average, on a long run if I switch off the aircon and have the radio on really low, I get 34. Haven’t bothered with a warranty, probably going to keep it to 95k. That's the numbers, putting the emotion into it, it's a phenomenal car, I love driving it, the handling and power are sensational, overtaking somebody else at higher speeds is mind blowing. It looks fantastic and I find myself smiling at it as I walk up to it.
