Evening all,

I'm guessing this is well trodden topic (generically) elsewhere in the forums: if so please point me in the right direction, as I can't find it.

Quite simply: I'm a cash buyer for a new Skoda Octavia Estate vRS. If list is about £27k, what should I actually be paying? And any truth in the cliche that doing a deal at the end of a month gets you better deal?

Brokers tend to offer the best deals so just go to the usuals for quotes.

Maybe not for you but if you only want it a couple of years, Simpson Skoda do some fantastic lease deals.

They do various other deals too, point is, I'd have a chat with them first and go from there.

Should also mention: likely to hold on to it for a while: 5-8 years is the plan.

Not super keen on a lease, but happy to take recommendations on brokers...

I bought a Vrs 230 from meadens skoda a couple of years ago.

They were open to a bit of haggling, they have a fair few pre reg and were absolutely divine to deal with. Best dealer experience yet for me.

You can buy a 5 year warranty on new cars or at least you could

I bought my Octavia VRS via carwow

Thanks folks, that's some good leads to be getting on with.

Lord T, would you be prepared to share what sort of % you managed to haggle? Curious as I've managed 12-15% on 'approved used', but that was 8 years ago. Don't know if that's good or bad...

Coast2coast are usually good.

That's a VRS DSG Estate listing at 28.something.

You have to be careful with the broker quotes as they list prices with deposit contributions taken off (in this case £3k)

DTD have a manual base spec petrol in flat red at £23,200 cash.

Take the minimum finance
Get the Manufacturer contribution
Collect car
Drive home & cancel the finance (pay on your card). You have a 14 day cooling off period..

With BMW, you have a £1 final payment fee
Cost me a total of £1.39 for 5 days (£8k)

Id try and find a 245 knocking about as far more standard kit, and a few extra horses.

Cant order new ones as skoda cant even fulfill the orders they have currently!

That was the same with the 230 pre-facelift version - my estate has a lot more kit on it as standard than the non-230 VRS.

This sounds interesting. Is it that simple? How p*ssed off is the dealer likely to be? the one I have in mind is the only one for miles around so need a reasonable relationship with them. Could do the deal with a dealer elsewhere I guess...

Dealer wont care as the finance is direct with VW financial services, with the apr being 5.6% it makes sense to pay it off as soon as possible

2017 low milers start below 19k, i dont think it would be a totally unrealistic expectation to do a deal at 18k if you are a good haggler.

whatever price the broker quotes you, the delta between that and the 18k is the cost of a brand spanker versus something with about 6000 on the clock, which should be still mint. different people have different interpretations of the value of that delta to them.

personally, for a relatively white goods car, id be 1-2k tops. the new one stops feeling new pretty quickly!

Yup, that's almost exactly where I'm at right now, on both measures: with the used one nicely optioned up to boot. Got very similar views from Briskoda and took it from there. Will let you know how it pans out in due course..
