Buying a car - paying on the day?
Discussion
Hi,
Picking up a new motor on Tuesday that I have brought over the phone from a main Ford dealer 150 miles away..
I have done this in the past but always paid by debit card once I have viewed the vehicle and I am happy all is well. Only way the dealer will accept payment is by bank transfer and the nearest bank is about 5 miles away and I am on foot.
Got a feeling that the TSB mobile APP wont allow transfers of £18K at least the same day?
What are peoples thoughts
Thanks
Barry

A Ford main dealer without a card machine?
That doesn't sound right.
Ensure the bank account is actually the Ford dealer.
They will have a card machine but will likely have a policy in place to only accept payments under £500 by credit/debit card due to terminal fees etc. That doesn't sound right.
Ensure the bank account is actually the Ford dealer.

I think its something to do with the new credit card laws. I could agree to use a debit card and give a credit card instead..means an extra charge of 1-2% for them....
If you're trying to trick them into taking a credit card I can understand them insisting on a bank transfer.bazza1603 said:

Paid the deposit by credit card, and they say the only way they can accept payment is bank transfer. Wouldn't be so bad if I had seen the carAre they asking for a bank transfer before you've seen the car?
That would not be usual practice.
Barry, sorry to be "that guy", but you bought the car, you didn't brought it. I won't quote your original post, because I'm not that much of a t
t.
Anyway, back on topic, the banking app on your mobile probably won't let you transfer that much money to a recipient you haven't paid before.
Your best bet is to rock up to the dealer with a laptop and the two factor authentication dongle your bank gave you for use with internet banking.
If you don't have a laptop, ask to use the dealer's PC. If they want your money, they'll let you use the computer!
Failing that, give your bank a ring, and explain what you're trying to do.

Until you've seen the car it's a distance sale, you can just leave it if it's not to your liking and get your deposit back.
Are they asking for a bank transfer before you've seen the car?

It’s onky a distance sale if he never goes to collect it. If he bought it, paid for it and had it delivered it would be a distance sale. Once he steps foot there it is no longer the case. Are they asking for a bank transfer before you've seen the car?
That would not be usual practice.
OP, the dealership will likely drive you to the bank to do the transfer, we have and we would again.
