Hello all,

By way of introduction, I am a 32 year old male who moved to the UK 12 months ago. I have converted my full Australian license this month to a full UK license.

For the past 5 years I was living in Hong Kong and had no insurance coverage there. Therefore, as far as UK insurers are concerned, I do not have any no claims bonus.

My Australian license is completely clean bar a single speeding ticket 15 years ago when I was 17. Zero accidents, criminal convictions or any other red flags.

I am now ready to buy a car and have found a wonderful track prepped E46 M3 with all the good bits on it - engine, brakes, suspension, half cage, race seats, harnesses etc.

I am having huge problems finding anyone to cover me for personal (non-track) usage, as in the eyes of UK insurers, even once I have explained my situation and driving history, they treat me as a brand new license holder with a car that clearly isn’t appropriate for someone with zero months of driving experience.

Have anyone else had a similar experience after moving to the UK? Are there any insurers who are sympathetic / understanding of situations like this?

I should add that I have spent several hours on the phone with insurers including Adrian Flux who couldn’t find anyone. They referred me to another comparison company, who in turn referred me to Be Wiser. No one was able to offer cover.

Thank you for your assistance

I was referred to XS Direct who do cater for new immigrants / people with zero no claims bonus history, but they do not accept any vehicles which have been modified.

Any ideas?

I am in a similar situation (worse, as I could not convert my brazilian driving license).

Check Clements and Aviva... got the best quotes from them.

Clements wouldn’t quote online, and Aviva wanted 7k GBP a year.

Will call Clements when I get a moment!
