Relatively self explanatory but had the Type R for 6 months and of course man-maths means I'm sat working out what's next.

Happy with body size - never needed the humungo-boot size, just the regular boot is fine.

Petrol, we do about 8-10k miles absolutely max per year, more power ideally and happy to be manual or auto. Ideally newer than my 08 plate too, just because.

Cant think what would be the obvious choice - would an RS Megane feel any faster? an ST Ford?

I'd definitely be looking into a Megane 250/265 for your requirements and budget. The turbo will make it feel alot faster but they are definitely quicker in general. They still feel fairly linear, power-band wise, but the proper boost kicks in from 3k rpm onwards i believe.

Great cars. A proper driver's car hot-hatch. See if you can swing a drive of one and see what you think. You'd struggle to be disappointed, i reckon.

I went from the 1.8 Civic FK2 to a Megane RS. It's a completely different league in terms of performance and handling. The gap will be smaller from the FN2 to a Megane Rs, but I would imagine it would still be significant.

Go for the Megane it's the best drivers hot hatch & they really respond to a map, a Lux with the Cup Chassis or a Trophy edition are the ones to look for, the ST is less focussed but buy a last of the line 2.5 & you'll have a very capable car with a cracking engine.

Or a sorted 2.5 ST-3

Having owned a 2007 ST3 remapped to around 280bhp I would love that. Mine was very fast, and that one looks very decently modded.

Having driven the Ford, the noise it makes was superb but I just couldn't get on with the position and the pretty low-rent interior. I've sat in (but not driven) the RS Megane and thought it was much better, albeit the noise was pretty subdued (I had a little blip of the throttle) so I guess the devil is in the drive, in this case.

Thanks - some food for thought.

Wouldn't bother with any of the suggestions.

If anything, spend the spare money on something else!

Any reason why not? The Megane RS is one of the best driver's hot-hatch out there.

What would you suggest as an alternative?

If you do drive the Megane the Sport button makes a big difference to throttle response and releases a bit of extra noise
