Hi my partner has been to look at a car for me down south, near where she lives. I could not get down to see it personally but I sent her a simple guide from research to check most expensive potential issues. The guy selling owns a auto repair family business. The car is a 09 kia 1. 6 diesel ceed HAS with 66k on the clock.

One thing I found funny with the car is it was already warm when my partner checked it for me. Then my partner asked the owner to rev the car while checking the exhaust and she sent me a video and there is blue smoke coming out the exhaust. The owner said there wasn't but I can clearly see its blue smoke.

When she test drive it she said the clutch was very light but she has never driven a diesel car and its also my first car and I couldnt really determine if that's normal or not.

These are the only photos I managed to get of the engine bits, but the body work is fine so no need to post them. I do have a video of the car revving with blue smoke coming out the the exhaust and the owner denies it's blue!

Ive noticed the guy has been trying to sell it for a while and it's a good price based on model and year , could this be why? It's worth knowing I'm not at all a expert on cars and I know a lot of people on here know a lot more than me.

I know it's hard to say but from what you have seen and heard me say what would your Thoughts be, and advice!. The owner did say the car had been standing for 2 weeks yet was warm when we went to view.

Don't touch it if you're unsure or can't view yourself - there are plenty more.

I presume you've run the numberplate though the MOT history check too for mileage discrepancies and to get an impression of the general level of care it's been given?

First time buyer sends inexperienced partner to look at car for him- Sounds like a recipe for success...

Why not set aside a hundred quid for an independent inspection and HPI check for peace of mind?

Cue next weeks thread...... "I want a refund for my used car that burns oil"

You must be crackers if you buy this.

By your own omission you dont really know what you are doing or looking at!

Forget it. Find something else. Get someone who knows what they are doing to look at it with you.

The only reason why I even considered looking at the car was simply due to fact it seemed a good deal and my partner was only within ten minute's drive away from the car as luck would have it.

No problem simple yes or no would have done. And yes the HPI iis clear and mot checks I done but that's all I wanted to know. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't touch a car without a mechanic there. Cheers.

If the blue smoke is that obvious I'd walk away. If it's such a good deal why has it sat around for so long.

Yeah that's what I thought, that's why I asked on here first for people's thoughts. But I'll leave the car alone.

Yeh buy it. Offer the seller over the odds. Don't test drive it or check bodywork yourself. Always view in the dark and wet. Never haggle. Do not check fluids or look under the car. Never take someone who knows what they are looking at.

You won't catch me posting on here again, to be fair im not a mechanic but I do research a lot before blowing large amounts of cash on anything., that's why I started the post.

Thanks for giving me a answer and not any grief for asking a perfectly justifiable question.

I'll look else where.

He's (obviously I hope?) joking.

However, if you stick around here for a while you'll see quite a few threads where a very similar scenario to the above unfolds.

Some people's car buying skills are woeful at best.

You asked your question (I think you knew you shouldn't really buy it before you asked didn't you?) and you got honest, useful advice.

Stick around - there is a huge wealth and breadth of experience in here. No need to delete your account or dissappear IMHO.

Thanks I just wanted to ask that thread and that was it.

I'll probably look more for a car that isn't to good to be true in future. Nah I'm not really into cars, (more of a two wheels type )so it's not my type of forum but suppose it's a good site to ask the odd thread when needed.

Is anyone a mod on here by any chance?

I'll take the "good" advice onboard in future.

i would imagine buying a motorbike and buying a car are pretty similar in many ways.
plenty of others out there, do not rush
