Second car and Bonus
Discussion
I lived in central London until 3 years ago, so I gave up my car at that time which had maximum NCB, wife and I shared a car on which we have maximum bonus.
She has bought a Golf convertible which has poor boot space and its quite precious, if you know what I mean, for doing trips to the tip and stuff like that.
I was thinking about a cheap hatch or van or estate (open to suggestions by the way if anyone has something for sale) but I think I will have to start on Nil NCB. The idea of paying £1000 premium on a £1000 car doesnt appeal.
Current policy is with quoteme happy.com which is part of aviva and I dont think that adding a second car is that easy with them
Would appreciate any thoughts or ideas please?

Don't buy a van, as you will have trouble getting into the tip without a permit.
An estate is more practical.
My experience of insuring bangers is that they cost more to insure if the value is less than £1500. I guess they think you won't look after a car if it's only worth a few quid.
I drive a £1000 2007 Focus TDCi estate as my snotter and it is reliable and very cheap to run. With a 110,000 mile timing belt interval!

Re: the insurance, had a similar situation with my ex, the car she had been a named driver on had to be insured in her name, she had not had her own policy for about 7 years, Aviva used their discretion over the phone to give her a very fair discount to reflect the good history on prior policy. Might be worth talking to your current insurer to see what they can do for you.
I had very few years ncd because I had a company vehicle for years.
Sheila's wheels port my wives ncd of 9 years onto my car with their multi car policy, well worth a look. I had a my fault accident last year and there were no issues and overall their service has been very good! You may find it costs a little bit to move your wives insurance but the saving overall would be well worth it!
