Hi Guys,

The last few months I've been set on buying a FK2 Type-R on finance in a few months time.

However, as I'm still a student and only working part time I think it might be more sensible for me to just buy an older / cheaper car outright so I don't have to worry about making the payments. Looking to spend up to around 8k as a result. It'll be my only car

I'm still set on a hot hatch and as I'm only 19 Insurance only allows the following options:

-FN2 Type R (my Dad also has one and I love it)
-Mk2 Focus ST-3
-Mk7 Fiesta ST-2/3
-Clio 200 Cup

What do you guys reckon would be my best bet? Reliability is of course something which I need to take into account!

I'd say the Focus St-3 I loved mine the engine is a peach & the chassis is very good, it's also a nice alternative to your dads Type R.

The best drivers hatch is the Megane RS250 but insurance may be to much,, also unless you go high miles you won't get a Cup Chassis car:

Try searching for a BMW 130i.

261bhp rear wheel drive

0-60mph 6.1 secs.

Lovely sounding 6 cyl engine and no turbo to worry about.

Certainly in your price bracket.

Cheers guys, going to try and find some garages that’ll let me test drive some of them ( not easy with my age 😂)

If you've not got fixed up yet, you might look at this. Much cheaper than your budget and a great performer.

Renault Sport FTW biggrin

Tbh, as a do it all car, i can't fault the Fiesta for what they offer. Great little cars those. The Clio 200's are like little race cars and proper N/A hot-hatches but can be a bit of a pain when doing the more mundane trips.

I think i'm starting to prefer turbos these days tbh.
