Hi

As the title suggests. I want to enter this years Screwball Rally https://www.screwballrally.co.uk/ with friends ( four possibly five of us). Its five days camping and runs 1600 miles to Poland and back. The car needs to cost £750 or less ( although I suspect a little stretch is applied on this) . Ideally leather interior automatic and aircon. Style more important than fuel economy.

So far we have come up with Saab 9-5 Estate. Any big fat Merc or a Jaaag . Were old bds so insurance etc isn't a problem. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

As all good Germans know, there's only one way to go to Poland....

Wasn’t there a thread on here where some guys dressed their car up like a tank and it got impounded by the German police , apparently they have no sense of humour on anything war related !

We could always do it up like the Brexit bus....The French Police would shoot us on the hard shoulder.

The Galaxy apparently had roadworthy issues as well ,not connected with the tank modifications ,which didn't help their case.

thread was hilarious though.

Yes I get that. I think our plan is to not mess the car about cosmetically too much and try and punt it on at the end. Then donate the money from its sale to our charities as well.

I like this one. Later model auto leather and climate. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Omega-2-2-16v-...

I'm loving the Lexus suggestions as well. I hadn't thought about them.

I did Rome and a few couple of years back with a 1998 V70 T5 Auto... coped impeccably and averaged nigh on 30mpg for the 4500 miles. Plus points were it's mechanical simplicity, it's tank like properties when we went on the offensive in Paris at rush hour and it's ability to nudge 147mpg hunting down a German in an Audi. Downsides were the lack of air con, sweaty leather, cooking the autobox fluid on the way up an alp and roasting the brakes on the way down. Still driving it 3 years and 40k later with no issues. Granted it's sister ship, a fur covered 850 T5 died on one of the passes and ended it's life in a Swiss scrapyard but we'll gloss over that!
