It's by far the cheapest. So I looked at the sellers contact number and it comes back to a Club Japanese Imports. Am I being over cautious as to why it's cheap (I.e there's an issue) or genuinely the seller bought a house and changed his mind...

looks ok to me. They haven't exactly hidden its an import in the description and their business link is plain to see. Whether its a 'personal' vehicle or not might be in question but its a pretty dull attempt at bypassing trade sales if it is. Provided I wasn't paying up front by paypal i'd consider it.

It depends on your expectations, doesn't it.
It's a 14 year old car located on the other side of the world that the vendor has bought from an auction catalogue description. The vendor hasn't seen or inspected the car - it's still on the boat - so can't really describe the cars condition with any degree of authority and is looking to move the car on "as is" or with some minimal prep for an extra £500.
If it is as cheap as you say compared to others then buy it in that spirit: ie as a chance to buy the car at trade price and expect to spend some money on it to get it legal, sorted and reliable.
If you buy it in that spirit then it doesn't matter whether the vendor is trade or not, although I think it's disingenuous of him to disguise his status in this way.
If the car is actually not that cheap or you are unwilling to buy it without any comeback then stay away from it and look for a different one.
