Hi, looking for some opinions on a 2009 volvo V70 2.0d SE Lux, it’s in perfect condition and only done 25,000 miles, been offered it by a family member as they are getting a new car, they’ve had it since new. I currently drive a 2011 VW golf estate 2.0tdi sportline and done just over 100,000 miles and car is running absolutely perfectly, and really like it performance. Considering the change mainly based on the mileage.

Wondering what people’s opinions on the Volvo is, are they a good solid car, what’s the reliability like on them, what are they like to drive, is it a good idea to change, daily commuting about 50 miles, doing around 20,000 miles a year, like estates as good for the family with two little kids.

Is it the lower bhp engine (something like 136bhp)? If so the power-train is awful - I had an 09 R Design, lovely car to look at, lovely interior, practical etc but very under-powered (and mine was manual..!). I believe you can chip them but mine was on a lease so didn't want to fiddle about with it.

They do a D5 in that year as well, much better.

It’s the 2.0D 136 manual, the underpowered is a bit of a concern, especially compared to the golf, went on a test drive and was fine, but concerned on it power

yeah I would worry about power laden up

Ive driven the model (much later ones) with the 200-250bhp diesels and an auto and that they were good matched with an auto and suited the characteristic of the car

I'm not sure I would want a 135bhp in there and a manual, Im quite a sediate driver now but that engine gearbox combo would frustrate me

I guess it depends how cheap you can get it, id buy one , but only with a bgger engine and an auto, otherwise id just get a Mondeo estate which is quite similar

They are nice comfy cars , but feel a bit dated but well built and do the job of an estate well

If the family member has done 25K in 8 years please encourage them to buy a petrol next time.
