No naming and shaming (so no shaming) but a AC about 300 miles away has a hard to find car thats got a delicate engine - I am not thinking long term warranty but was thinking to get the car then get it inspected by BMW immediately and hitting them with the faults - hows that going to go? (They wont let me get it inspected before purchase)

So car bought, driven 300 miles home, into BMW Liverpool who say for example the rocker covers are weeping or the water pump is below spec etc etc how would that play out?

I hate hassle but right colour, good deal and not many about.

I would suggest that you are onto plums. You would get better aftersales from Cain Dingle.

Not had any dealings personally but read and heard some stories about about AC which in turn would put me off.
A friend did buy a car off them a few years ago and car was fine but they did put it in for some other repair and when they got it back she was told the air con needed a repair and re gassing and should book it in which I’d be impressed if they could do it seen as it doesn’t even have ac! That was ac in Liverpool btw!

This is because there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Why else would they refuse.

Will probably have a standard not-worth-the-paper-it's-written-on 3rd party insured warranty. I'd be nervous about gambling on them accepting the repairs, especially if they're not significant or easily noticeable faults.

At the very least you'd have to pay the inspection/diagnostics cost and then hope the claim(s) were approved. They're also unlikely to pay main dealer rates.

I had a similar dealer warranty on a diesel 1 series that started the timing chain death rattle, as it was 'just a noise' they wouldn't pay out without me first paying to strip the engine down to inspect, at which point they were highly unlikely to pay the £000's bill to fix it

In Dundee? Looks a lovely car but if you want an inspection before sale and they won't agree then don't buy it. If the inspection is at your cost then they have nothing to lose.

If you take the car to your local BMW dealer and say "I've just bought this somewhere else, can you have a look at it and see if it needs any work doing?" then they will see dollar signs and present you with a list of everything that needs doing to turn a 6 year old car into a brand new one.

I mean no disrespect to the BMW dealer by this. It's possible that they may find some things that they regard as essential maintenance but there will no doubt be all kinds of other stuff that is various shades of discretionary and their opinion of what is reasonable on a 6 year old car may well be different to that of AC

If you do choose to go down that route you may well end up spending a huge amount of time having circular arguments with people who really don't feel obliged to help you, and unable to enjoy the car you bought because of those issues which may or may not be reasonable for a car of that age and mileage.

Again, no disrespect to AC. You are buying the car from a car supermarket operation with a "sell em fast and cheap" business model rather than a marque specialist asking top dollar for a meticulously prepared car. It does appear well priced. Would you be prepared to spend £1000 or £2000 on top to get it exactly how you want it?

What kind of inspection are you needing done? I’m not far from Dundee and can have a look over it if needs be? I’m quite particular about my cars but I’m far from a 6-series specialist, so it’d be a ‘used car wander’ rather than an ‘in-depth specialist health check and mechanical assessment’ from me.

BMW Warranty is also an option you might want to explore to put your mind at ease a little post-purchase, comprehensive cover on that car is £1000 with a £100 excess and £760 with a £250 excess.

The 4.4 pre modified engine has a very poor reputation in the states not much here as very low numbers.
It’s only the engine that bothers me.
Budget isn’t an issue finding a blue one not diesel is!
I’m thinking of waiting for an AUC car - not exactly sunny 😎 I’ll keep looking I think.
Cheers guys
