A sports car with low insurance for a 21 year old?
Discussion
Hello,
I am turning 21 soon and i would like to give up my Nissan Micra that i had as my first car and buy a sports car as a birthday present. I understand because of my age the insurance will be high. I want to buy something relatively new and my budget is £30,000 MAX.
Does anyone have anything in mind? The car will be used daily a lot, to drive to work, then friends, road trips, etc. I would like to keep this car for approximately 5 years, so i want something reliable, enjoyable and fun! Hopefully, someone will be able to help me.
Thank you.

Lol a Mini Cooper S for me it's nowhere near a sports car!
I am talking about, AUDI TT, Porsche Boxter, Cayman, CLK, MX5, etc.
I'd be surprised if most insurance companies will even insure you for a Porsche unless you're over 25 regardless of cost. Maybe they are more flexible for Boxster / Cayman although I doubt it.I am talking about, AUDI TT, Porsche Boxter, Cayman, CLK, MX5, etc.
I'd be very surprised if you can insure anything with more than 200bhp for under £2k at 21, especially if the value is approaching £30k.
But maybe I'm wrong....
OP, you did the right thing with running a Micra until you are 21to build up NCBs but maybe your next step is too much if you want insurance below £2k.
Best thing to do is either look at comparison sites and find a car which you would be happy with for less than £2k insurance but it may not be a TT/Cayman etc.. or, reduce your budget to buy and spend more on insurance.

They will insure me for about £2.1k on a new Porsche Cayman 718 but its way out my budget.
That's surprising, but if that's the case why not simply buy one that's old enough to be in budget? You're already intending to spend a large amount of money for a car at 21 - why make most of that depreciation on a car you've had to compromise on?GreatGranny said:

If I reduce my budget and will to spend more on insurance, do you have anything in mind? I don't mind doing that, I just really want something fun, I am tired of driving a boring Micra.Best thing to do is either look at comparison sites and find a car which you would be happy with for less than £2k insurance but it may not be a TT/Cayman etc.. or, reduce your budget to buy and spend more on insurance.
MK3 Audi TT?
I had a brand new 2016 TT at 18 and my insurance was £1,300 for the year with Admiral which I thought was reasonable. It could be even cheaper for a 21 year old, but it all obviously depends on all of the other factors too.
A brand new base TT runs around £28,000, or around £20,000-£26,000 for second hand. Obviously more expensive for S Line and Black Edition models. Personally, I only like the current MK3 model of the TT (2015 cars onward.) Its styling is definitely more aggressive and sportier than its predecessors, and I absolutely loved the car when I had it.

I’m 20, just picked up my brand new 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman a month ago, and my insurance is less than £1,500! Not bad for a £50,000 300bhp sports car! You’re right, though, most insurers do flat out refuse to even give you a quote, but it’s definitely not impossible
Could you please contact me? I want to ask you a few questions about the 718 if you don't mind manGassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
