My e220d lease is going back soon, it's been a great car for the motorway (elegant wafting) which I've really enjoyed and a step up from the jalopies I normally drive. I can't really justify the cost of getting another and hopefully I shouldn't be travelling that much away from home (West Yorks). If I was going to be doing a lot of miles then it'd be a case of just getting an 3 year old insignia and off I trot but that's not the plan.

So I don't know what to get next. Budget-wise, it'd be up-to the 10k maybe 15k if the reasoning behind it made sense.

I'm not a boy-racer more elegant wafting so the smoker barges thread maybe more appropriate, but in terms of ideas:-

Touareg - it's big, old and inefficient also worrying is the load of electronics waiting to go wrong with accompanying costs but I like the look of them!
Another lease - Golf or something else but the A4 1.4 petrol engine that seems cheap has a lot of people complaining about them.
Smoker barge - The lease MB had loads of tech I've never used (parking assist, crappy sat-nav etc.) a big engine in my mind trumps a lot of the tech.
Lexus - don't know too much about them, SUVs don't look that nice
Phaeton - errm why not!
CRV

Needs back seats for pre-teen kids, and unfortunately no garage, just a driveway at the moment. I'm worried about depreciation, getting a car just as it's value drops like a stone, but thinking out aloud as I write this, that's only a problem if you want to sell it. So, strike that, make that worried about maintenance costs.

The wife has a Verso 1.6 petrol and complains (rightly) it's got no poke, I hear the same comments about Volvos, what about CRVs?

Diesel/petrol - no preference, won't be doing 15k miles minimum to justify a diesel, will the diesel be cheaper now with the perceived increase taxation in the pipeline?

In terms of Volvo’s... lack of power only an issue with their smallest engines (badged T2, T3, D2 or DrivE) depending on age. The diesel D4 (163-190 depending on age/model) and D5, or petrol T5/T6, have plenty of poke.

£10-15k would buy you a S60 or V60 still within manufacturers warranty. Interior tech a bit dated but a lovely drive and great seats. XC60 probably 3-5 years old for that money. In both cases the 2013 facelift improves interior tech and styling. Well worth a look.

£15k would get you a sensational amount of Lexus compared to the other premium brands - tons of toys, ultimate waftage and great reputation for not burning through all you cash...
