As much as i love my current car (fiesta st mk7), im seeing them stolen far too often and i dont wish to end up in a situation in a years time where insurance triples and i cant sell the car due to people knowing they are targetted and stolen daily.

So my budget is 10k.
Less than 8 years old ideally.
60000 miles or less.
Has to sound good.
Has to return 30mpg even with some hooning.
Ideally 8 or less 0-60 time and a good handling car.

I LOVE the sound of the older focus st's but they are too thirsty otherwise they would fit my requirements mostly, that 5 cylinder noise is awesome.

V6 sounds a hell of a lot better than an ST
20-40mpg
<6 seconds 0-60
Bit heavy, but handles alright, and RWD, so much more fun than an ST
Cheap insurance
Not stolen

We have a 200K SLK

Sounds good, handles well, quite spritely for a 1.8.

Only two seats though.

Just as thirsty as an ST. 40mpg is dreaming.

There seems to be this pattern with every car you have where you talk yourself out of it based on what you’ve read on social media and forums about some potential fault or issue or problem.

The scenario you’re worried about will not happen. It just won’t. If it was going to happen then insurance premiums would already be through the roof. Insurance companies simply aren’t that slow to react to theft data and this has been going on for years.

I believe that was also the consensus on the PH thread you had asking about the issue - although I completely accept the irony in suggesting believing a forum thread while at the same time not worrying about what you read elsewhere on forums/social media.

I have a Golf R, a friend of mine also has one, someone else I know in passing has one. None of us have so far been killed to death by masked intruders demanding our keys, but according to the internet that’s the inevitable consequence of having an R. I’ve just got my insurance quote through for renewal - obviously on such a frequently stolen car my premium is going to be through the roof? Nope, it’s the square root of bugger all.

Just ran a quote on a 2015 Fiesta ST 3 - even cheaper.

Stick with the Fiesta, it’s a cracking little car and you’re worrying over nothing.

Get the Focus they'll average 24-28mpg depending on your driving style, or look at the R32.

Lotus Elise with the K-series. Very good noise for a 4-pot, lightness means excellent fuel economy, legendary handling, depreciation resistant.

FN2 Type R should meet all your requirements above, they sound great for a 4 pot (but fairly loud and aggressive) plus they have never really been on the radar of car thieves

Although an E90 330 would be high on my list, i found the E46 330ci i had to be pretty good on fuel for its size and the engine was a peach

Managed an average of 43 on a 250 mile round trip on the M1 this week.

To be honest even excluding the thefts im just falling out of love with the car, the main reason being that it sounds like garbage, the turbo spooling and blow off noises are nice, but even with an aftermarket exhaust it just sounds the same tond throughout the whole of the rev range.

Would a mx5 nc with a exhaust sound nice or pretty dull?

The lotus elise was a good shout but wont get one for my budget and other criteria either.

Thanks so far for your help people.

1) It will.
2) You're gonna rule it out for the sake of a couple hundred quid a year?
