What will happen to the market for diesel cars?

I went to a car auction this week and the diesel cars were still selling strongly in all shapes and sizes. I thought with the upcoming changes to MOT and tax for these cars, they would be struggling to find a home. Is it still worth looking at a second hand diesel or are they just being bought by mugs? Does anyone have any sense of where the market is going with these cars?
