Right i need suggestions for a tow car, will only be used to pick a car up and take it home 1000miles and then sold. So as cheap as possible. I guess the car I'm picking up weighs 1400kgs and then a trailer is another few hundred so as close to 2000kgs towing capacity would be sufficient. Am i just left with the obvious lwb van?

Surely by the time you've paid petrol, road tax and accounted for your time to both do it and sell the asset afterwards it would work out cheaper to get somebody from Shiply to do it, especially as it'll likely only cost ~£500 or so (assuming £1 per mile, single journey as you won't have to drive there un-loaded).

Surely cheaper and easier to just hire a van and trailer combo or a flatbed for the day...?

I did look i to renting a flatbed but it gets expensive with the deposit etc, thought it would be a better use of money to buy something and then sell it on afterwards hopefully breaking even

You can hire a VW Crafter with a towbar for just over £100 Friday night to Monday morning.
Rent a trailer (ebay has loads)
1000 miles over a weekend, no problem

Anyone know what A6 allroads tow like? Is the auto box st for towing on those? Seems to fit the bill. My old man suffers with bad back lol and will be doing at least some driving so that kind of rules out the vans for now
