I am after a used car to replace the old Insignia and I'd like something a little more sporty. I do like the look of a Maserati Ghibli or a Jag XK but they are either out of price range or they are 11 years old. It needs to be
4 seats,
16k or less,
not plummet to 2k once I sit in it,
and be a 2010 or newer (I dont want anything fragile, 16k is alot for me and I could do with forking out for expensive repairs on the regular)

As you can probably tell, I'm not an expert in this range as I've never been able to afford 16k before. Any help gratefully received.

It depends on how sporting you want the Insignia's replacement to be? You have a wealth of options to choose from:

Insignia VXR (this is the obvious answer & a very good underrated steer with lots of go spec & they're well priced)

Mondeo Titanium with X Pack (best FWD steer in class & a nice amount of go)

IS300 F Sport (I've driven a few of these whilst they're no M3 they're as sporty as an S Line A4 etc)

C250 Sport

XF Premium Luxury

Ok, I've been for a few test drives today on some I fancied.

Best I saw was this - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... It was the only car all three of us liked. However, as has been glaringly obvious, this end of performance is new territory for me. Am I missing anything with this, is the engine or gearbox more likely to go bang as it's a 5.0, am I going to be able to sell it in a few years, am I buying a very early stage banger? Any observations gratefully received.

I guess I've been a bit stung as the engine in my insignia went pop a year or so ago. 1.5K later it was back on the road with a scraper engine. That's not going to be possible with this car is it? How do people hedge against a huge bill, a warranty perhaps but won't everything be wear and tear at this age. Cheers for reading.

Is that a cat C or am I misinterpreting the c in brackets after the service history?

Might be worth googling Junction 17 cars, I know the Peterborough site had some pretty iffy reviews when I was looking for a car a couple of year ago re after sales service.

I very much appreciated your suggestions, they helped point me in the right direction of where to start looking at least.

The Jaguar you're looking at is a N/A (so the engine going bang is unlikely) unit so there's not a lot to go wrong engine wise gearbox wise make sure the fluids & filter have been changed apart from that drivetrain wise you should be fine, so checking all the electrical items function as they should is high on the priorities list.

Another car worth looking at is the W212 E500 but they're very rare & command a premium over the Jaguar:

No it really isn’t! :haha:

There are literally hundreds of 3.0 BMs in budget to choose from. From M135i to 730 and everything in between.

2.0 Mondeo. Sporty. PMSL!
