Simple enough question but its proving too tough for me mad

Our second car is pretty much only ever driven around town and consequently must have a small footprint for parking and run on petrol. It doesnt need to carry much luggage as we run a family bus for holidays and weekends away.

The missus and I both need all weather ability for work which has been fine in the 18 months since our RR Sport departed as this and last winter have been pretty mild until today.

Having made the decision to lease the family bus - currently a 335d with awful run flat snow performance and likely to be replaced by a V90 which is unproven - it makes sense to replace our Mini Cooper with something which will get through the worst the weather throws and as we will own it over several winters Im happy to buy a second set of wheels with proper winter tyres on them.

Its hard to argue against a Fiat Panda, discounts are decent and as we'll keep it for 5-10y Im happy to buy new.
The wife fancies a generic soft roader as her aspirational mates drive Suzuki Jimnys but all I know about 4wd Suzukis is those awful Rhinos with "hilarious" graphics from the early 90's which is not an image I wish to buy into.

The Yeti is a good shout but discontinued and its replacement costs a fair bit more, the Dacia Duster works for me but is a bit bigger than is necessary.

Realistically a 12 month old Yeti is the pragmatic choice and comes in trim levels with a bit of comfort which make the Panda feel somewhat agricultural but suggestions which have slipped under my radar would be appreciated.

What have I forgotten about which is easy to park in town but has AWD and will get through the worst the weather throws at us with winter tyres?

Cheers

if its to be driven around town, anything with fwd will be sufficient for 99.9% of uk scenarios.

If it's just round town any car will be fine.

If the weather is that bad you'll just be blocked/slowed down by other road users anyway.

Not really worth getting a car purely for this once a decade weather occurrence.

The Jimny is great, however is not really a 'softroader'. They are not very refined and on a ladder chassis, so if you are used to higher end stuff like the rr sport and bmw it is a world away. It's great for the whole snow and bad conditions thing but the rest of the time unless you really like the look your better off with a car with awd my vote would be for the panda 4x4.

Get a normal town car & fit some winter tyres, if you're mainly driving around town a normal car will be fine.

As others have said if you get caught in bad weather & get stuck it'll probably be because of other road users rather than the car.

I'd look at the Kia range you'll find something to fit the bill & a large chunk of warranty left.
