Really struggling to decide between these two cars as a family wagon.
Both will be in the petrol flavour, the 2.0 for the CR-V and the 1.4 TSI(150) for the Leon ST as my current annual mileage is approx 8k.
I'd be aiming on keeping the car for a good 8-10 years so reliability is high up on the wish list. The safety of the 2.0 on the Honda appeals compared to the complexity of the 1.4 TSI but the fuel consumption differences between the two are significant along with the RFL.

Any words of wisdom on which path I should be going down?

The 2 litre is a fine engine, but a bit lacking in torque for a CRV.

You can pick up an Accord estate with the same engine, that has less work to do.

I ran an Accord saloon with the 2l engine in it for a few years, there don't appear to be any problems with them.

8 years is a long time to hold onto a car....
Could you spend less on two cars, for four years each, total 8k?

id defo say the non turbo Honda for a long term keeper, would be much more reliable in my books. I really want the mrs to get one to replace our ep2 civic, but its too big for her I think.

I think from a reliability point of view the CR-V is a no brainer. It's just a killer for the increase road tax and economy. I think my rough calculation comparing the two the CR-V will cost me approx £550 extra per year
