So I've bought my dad a skoda which was registered in October 2015 with 5k miles on it.

Bought it 3 days ago and they're delivering it tomorrow but the dealer (skoda main dealer) rang me and said they've MOT'd it.
Apparently they have to mot anything with less than 9 months but surely not on a car that isn't due its first yet??

Obviously I don't care from a hassle point of view but surely this will look weird to any future buyers as I've never seen a car that isn't a taxi/private hire MOT'd before it was actually due.

Is this a normal thing?

Some dealers do state a minimum of 9 months, it also helps when customers say it wasn't road legal and they want their money back.

My Mini was mot'd 3 months early, the dealer thought they were doing the right thing but it messes with my head.

Ok thanks. Also think it was owned by the BBC from New.
Saw it in two different TV programs as police cars.

why dont you try to negotiate with the dealer that they MOT it in Sept at no cost to you including any repairs but excluding brakes and tyres? Get any agreement written on the invoice.

TV companies won’t own the cars they will be loaned to them by manufacture. It would put me off as I assume more chance they had been abused.

Why would you do something that isn't due for 9months?

Definitely BBC? Does it say that on the logbook or does it give a hire company as the first owner.

They have already MOT'd it. The salesman just called me last night to confirm delivery and told me it has been MOT'd.

I'm pretty annoyed that they told me over the phone when I enquired about it that it was owned by an older gent who got into a bit of family troubles so had to sell.

I can see this being a pain in the arse.

If anyone is able to find a clip of this, i'd love to see what happened. The program was called Trust Me and I believe it's from Season 1 Episode 4.

Same goes for this one.
Silent witness Maybe Series 20 episode 7.

There are schemes where private owners can loan their cars to TV production companies but it’s usually for stuff that’s a bit rarer or older. Newer stuff is often loaned by the manufacturer, and that has the right registration prefix for Skoda UK HQ.

I suspect you’ll find it was registered to Skoda UK first, then sold to the private buyer at 6 - 12 months old.

That scene involved a high speed chase with much metal to metal contact. The Skoda was a wreck but looks like it has been repaired to quite a high standard.

Trust Me.

If they lied about who owned it and it bothers you then reject it.

HPI shows it as a Cat B. I wouldn't worry though it's got an MOT.

They will quite often rent from car dealers, and there are independant brokers that hunt out specific vehicles and either buy them outright in their own name then sell them at the end of the productio or rent them off the private owner. £300 each a day in the case of a couple of my older vans, they both got thouroughly detailed and one van i was planning on getting resprayed as it was a mess when I bought it because they scratched the back door they contributed 1/4 of the full respray. It was a interesting being on set too and seeing how much work goes into a 1 or 2 minute scene.

Shepperton studios is near us, we've (we are are a franchised car dealer) rented out cars to the studios a couple of times, they've only been static display; both times was for a Direct Line advert.

It's quite a good earner; we had no experience of what to charge so just blurted out £350 per day per car and it was accepted, they send a trailer to collect them and drop them back when finished; both times for 2-3 days.

It's a conspiracy, a car dealer is involved so there has to be a sinister side to it!
