Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tuscon - you can CarWow an absolute top of the range 4wd version of either for under £30k, with a 7 year warranty to boot.

I think they may do too many miles to make leasing an option!

Why comment then? rolleyes

What about a XC40? Good image, new design, Safe, Comfortable and doing very well in reviews

https://www.carwow.co.uk/volvo/xc40

..orrr a Duster? Might be a good option if Off Roading is more then a muddy track etc, way under budget too

I'm not sure how much they are but what about the ssangyong's, they have upped their game in recent years. I'd have thought you can get something really smart with change from £30k.

A bloke at work just bought a Kia sorrento to tow his caravan, he paid £28k for a fully loaded pre reg. It's a lovely bit of kit, puts his Kuga to shame.

Volkswagen Tiguan is another good choice. Comfortable to drive and has a spacious interior.

Try this before driving a Tiguan (god awful drive), I'd rate the CX5, Hyundai Tucson, weird Toyota thing, CRV & nosiy Kia above the VW offering.

Dacia Duster for that budget, plus you won't feel bad if it gets dented or stuck

Or the smaller Karoq.

Personally, unless she wants "an SUV" rather than sufficient capability I'd be looking at the Octavia Scout. Or a Duster for half the money.

But I also like the look of the Jeep Renegade far more than I should.

Disco Sport is available sub 30k with a discount. Won’t be a decent spec but at least it’ll have proper 4x4 credentials and off-road ability, if that’s what she needs. Good residuals as well, compared to rivals.

I can’t recall anyone saying anything bad about Tiguan before - what’s wrong with it?

Bearing in mind the high mileage use then worth considering that Mazda’s have a reputation for expensive parts.

Also a consideration in a rural area should be the proximity of the dealer - ideally more than one.

Got to be a Dacia Duster. Laureate version, 110dci 4x4 for just under £16,500.

Hard to argue with this choice.

Another option is a nearly new Volvo V90 cross country. Much more luxurious and better specced than anything else mentioned. Unfortunately it's £40k brand new but good deals on nearly new cars...
