Query BMW Dealer stock
Discussion
Hi, does anyone know of an easy way to query BMW dealer stock? We want a car ASAP this month and so it needs to be from UK stock. Local dealers do not have what I want and although they can see there's 7 potential available, since they can't pull the stock, they will not tell me where the stock is. Short of ringing round all UK dealers, is there an easy way of finding it?

I asked my local BMW dealer and they pulled the stock list and told me where every car was located, however we had a tacit agreement that I'd buy through him and I wasn't going to take my money elsewhere if I found that a different dealer had my ideal car. The dealer I was using was part of a massive group so wasn't averse to moving stock about if the customer was serious. If you buy through your local dealer he should help you. Perhaps explain this clearly else escalate to his/her boss. I assume you mean new cars in stock? If used, you can search the AUC site with your specific criteria with the "location" set to "national" and it gives you every car in the UK.

The auc site does NOT give all bmw used stock - on many occasions I have identified from bmw dealers’ own website that they have stock that is not on the national auc listIf you buy through your local dealer he should help you. Really? I never knew that. In which case, get a bottle of wine, sit down in front of your PC and search by dealer. Probably worth spending an evening doing so if you're spending BMW money. At least search on the big dealer group websites - Sytner, Cooper, Inchcape, Stratstone, Pendragon, Listers etc - you'd cover 80 - 90 % of the cars for sale in 10 visits.
Ok cheers again, all for sitting down with a bottle of wine, I could use it. Been scratching my head going round in circles on these for a week now. Chasing dealers and cars etc, have also put a deposit down on two different cars so far only to be told later they can't secure them, which delayed my search and other potential cars have then since gone...
There's no way for a member of the public to search through new stock on the BMW system.
Generally, all the dealership groups have an agreement to work with one another to transfer new stock between if necessary HOWEVER, new reg month changes all of this. The dealers will have spent the last few months very carefully making sure they have a lot of stock in their inventory and stock that they believe they can sell. It is nigh on impossible to get another dealer to agree to a transfer during March and September - the pressure of the new car targets is simply too great. It is very difficult to even get a car from another dealership in the same group at this time.
An individual sales exec may be willing to tell you the dealership where the stock is located, the system used to search the stock, called IVS, does show the exec where it is. However they will probably be under instructions not to do so. Additionally their own targets will mean they will want to shift your attention to a car in their own dealers stock.
I spent a miserable year selling MINI's (now thankfully out of the trade!) so I am very well versed in the BMW/MINI new car searching protocols.
