Hi all

I'm in the process of purchasing a used but good and reliable family car, Hyundai Accent 2007, which I've seen on gumtree.

Have just went and seen it and it looks okay inside and out. Has done 140k miles but I already knew this was nornal for Hyundais around 12 years old. My question is that I asked if it was still in warranty and the guy said "no, but it's not cat D".

I'm a bit puzzled because I know it should bw cat d or c at the very least if its out of warranty. I just left it and said Id get back in touch.

Do you think I should try and haggle to get the price down from £800 or just leave it - if he's lying about that he could be hiding other things as well.

Thanks

Sean

What are you talking about?

I cant believe you asked if an 11 year old car was in warranty of course it wont be.

You have accused a man of lying when he probably isn't.

When the car breaks down in 3 years time you can go back to him and get a full refund so don't worry about it nono

This post makes no sense at all, and since it's your first one I doubt it's genuine.

What does "not being in warranty" have to do with whether a car is cat C or cat D?

Apologies, should have said in the advert the guy mentioned about an extended warranty which is why I asked.

I wouldnt normally raise it for such an old car, as you've rightly pointed out. It looks in a good condition so I'll probably go with out even if it is a cat c.

What? What are you actually talking about when you say "cat d" or "cat c"? I don't think it means what you think!

As has been said, I don't think Cat C means what you seem to think: https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/know-how/what-d...

Cat C or D has nothing to do with the warranty status or the age of the vehicle.
What are you trying to work out?

No issues here, car will be covered for all eventualities, all you'll have to pay is a small excess probably £150 or so.

If anything goes wrong with it, anything at all, simply phone up any local business you can find who collect cars, pay them the excess, they'll send a recovery truck, take it away and the problem will be solved forever.

I'm genuinely confused, £800 banger off Gumtree, what warranty are you expecting?
Even brand new they only have 5 year warranty.
Cat C write off, I wouldn't be worried about at all, as long as it was fairly recent.
Let's face it, a £150 repair bill would write off a 2007 Hyundai Accent.
Too expensive anyway, it's a £500 car, tops, a lot nicer stuff to buy for £800 out there then an ancient Hyundai that's been to the moon and back.
Walk away and get a lot more car for your money.

I suggest you consider Corgi or Dinky.

its an £800 quid car
ASSUME THERE IS NO WARRANTY OR BACKUP - if it goes wrong scrap it and buy another one
if you want that go and buy a new Kia or Dacia on finance

any warranty paperwork for that car should be put to good use as toilet paper, it will cover nothing.

Could you post a link to the advert, or a copy of what it says?
