First the disclaimer... last two years I have been in a 2016 TT. roadster... diesel...... in white!

And? It’s been brilliant. Pennies to run, tiny depreciation due a drivethedeal special, and a brilliant place to sit for a 60 mile round trip most days.

Previously ran a 159ti, Monaro, SRT8, 535d, focus ST, and a variety of stuff in between.

The TT is good but 2 seats are an occasional issue and the pcp is up so a good time to change.

So far on the radar were a M4, mustang GT, 640D, TTRS, and m240i. Ideally was looking at 4seat convertibles but having just bought a 257k mondeo as a shed, the options have widened. Mrs Rix has a modern derv so neither economy or practicality are neccessary but advantageous.

Criteria are £40k tops, minimal running costs (including depreciation) and not so thirsty that I don’t want to drive it. Must be a convertible (sorry!) Ability to do the stop/start commute when I fancy something more special than the mondeo.

What else should be on the radar??

40K but minimal depreciation with a 4 seat cab?

DB9.

Not sure it qualifies for cheap overall running costs mind laugh

If you don't want to lose money, why the fk would you put up 40 large to start with on a daily?

S5 cab was also a consideration, and like the idea of them tho reckon they’d be depreciation heavy. DB9 gorgeous on the outside but dare I say it possibly a bit dated to sit in?!

Doubt they would be any more than an M4 or particularly an M240i

He asked for “minimal running” costs and “not thirsty” and you suggest a Bentley, M cars and a Maserati?

To be fair, some more exotic machines offset their running costs by having very gentle depreciation - or in some cases they appreciate in value. For instance the DB9 suggested would probably retain most of its purchase price, but would have higher running costs than a S5 for instance, however the S5 will depreciate a lot more I would think.

Exactly this the overall costs of owning some of the cars listed above will be more similar than you think.

Yeah sorry to clarify, with the mondeo available it makes 2 seaters possible.

It’s cost of ownership that I’m interested in saw over. 2-3 year period so happy to offset maintainance costs against depreciation. Not stupidly thirsty but something around 20-25mpg wouldn’t be an issue...

Last n/a Boxster would be in with a shout?
