Help needed... £150k budget but worried about depreciation - Page 1 - Car Buying

I am at the point in my life of being able to spend £150-160k on a sports/super car. I thought this milestone event would be fantastic, however I am at the point of giving up on my dreams.

I need a car that will take a medium sized dog in the back.....I know what you are thinking.....but it’s a must and my wife. So a 458 is out as is McLaren, I have considered an older Ferrari FF but I do 8000 miles a year and Ferrari maintenance is a concern.

So I settled on a Vanquish S, 991 GT3 (I would order a new one of course but we all know why not), or a 991.2 Turbo S.

Can anyone suggest an alternative that meets the above and doesn’t depreciate too hard?

I think the V12 Vantage S Manual will be hard to beat. V12 NA, manual gearbox, last NA V12 aston (probably), one of the last V12 NA cars with a manual etc etc

If depreciation is a concern, sticking a foul smelling, hair dropping, claw scratching dog in the back is not going to work any wonders here (I'm a dog owner too). Your choice is, either get a garage queen that may drop in value but has the best chance of sticking it out, or actually enjoying your purchase and worry less about the depreciation, thats car ownership.

Very true, but my dog is well trained to respect the leather in my car....... my wife's car however gets a beating!

Will not be buying a garage queen, but have been kicked in the nuts several times on purchases, so just trying to keep as much cash as possible protected.

You had it right in the first sentence - 458. Dog goes in another car - if you plan to transport a dog regularly in something like this, you might as well stop worrying about depreciation because the dog evidence will be unhideable. Hair gets everywhere, smell gets in the carpets, scratches wherever it goes.

If depreciation is a concern, I would steer well clear from the Vanquish/S. Although if I had the money it is the car I would go for straight away but they depreciate heavily.

Where would you put the dog if you got a GT3?

The GT3 has a small shelf where the back seats are, although you can't have the Club pack .

The top end Tesla P100DL? It has a huge boot and is crazy fast (0-60 in about 2.1 seconds).

Why just one car? Spend £140k on a special car, and £10k for whenever the dog needs to go with you.

Depreciation is one thing, but trying to sell a super car which has had a dog in it makes it difficult to sell. Your purchase won't follow the normal depreciation curve as a result.

Have that covered, I am changing my wifes car for an SUV, that will be the daily. However, on weekends when I want to go for a drive, my car will be the one to use. Hence the need to put a dog in the back. BTW she is a Golden Doodle, so does not shed nor does she bite things. The dog has never damaged any of my cars, so I don't expect her to damage the next one.

Believe it or not, the Vanquish S is cheap to maintain (for a super at anyway).

Why not just get a new RS6 avant for about 50% of your budget?

600bhp so will keep up with most other things on your list.

I'd personally be too worried to put any dog in a Ferrari.

Can't beleive i'm saying that.. A dog in a Ferrari!! laugh

An FF would come with the balance of the 7 year service plan wouldn't it?

Your budget might run to a 2014 or even a 2015 car...

Funny, as I have just been talking to a Ferrari dealer about a 2012 FF, the finance numbers make it 25% more expensive per month than the Aston, but they have much lower residual on a Lease Purchase.

So, not really sure what to do now.... The FF is definitely a better choice and it has 3 years servicing left too. Just means spending a little more per month I guess.

Very happy with my FF - put the rear seats down so the dog has plenty of space. So far did bout 40-45k km in it, probably average about 15k a year
Good drivers car for the size, but not comparable to a 2 seater mif\d-engined car.
Still special though - that engine is amazing

Electric cars depreciate like a stone.

Plus they're just not special enough.

Thanks that's good to hear. How do you get on with reliability? Any issues I need to look out for? The car I am looking at has 2 yrs warranty and 2 or 3 years remaining on the service plan.
