Reliable and Comfortable
Discussion
Hi all. I currently have a Golf which is on Motability but with now having to reapply and the way the criteria keeps getting tighter and tighter I may well lose it so need to plan ahead.
Hatchback(with seats folded)/Estate - I play wheelchair basketball so need my chair in the back, plus bags etc, it doesn't fold so pretty big
Reliable - I do a lot of driving for training and games and being disabled I need this to be as reliable and cheap to repair as possible.
Comfortable - with back and leg issues I need something comfortable to eat the miles up without me being in more pain.
Diesel/petrol? - I've currently got a diesel and I like the drive and the mpg is good but with the way things are going probably a petrol maybe better before they get priced off the road and I can't resell it?
Looking to pay up to £5.5k
edit. Just to say this is something I intend to keep so not worried about how much it's worth a few years down the line.
Thanks in advance for help.

Does it need to be auto?
If you want a reliable spacious reliable car, I'd be looking no further than the Mondeo but the high spec ones are hard to find so you do pay a bit of a premium for them.

2.0T Titanium X Sport

2.0d Titanium X Haggle & you should get this for very close to your budget:

Value for money wise the Insignia Elite is very hard to beat:

Personally I'd go for a C/E Class Mercedes they're pretty much bulletproof, find yourself a good independent & the running costs are sensible.
Check to make sure the fluid & filters on the gearbox have been changed if there's no evidence of this then take £200 off for this to be done.

In what way does it have massive bork potential compared to a Geartronic V70 below?

As that 2.5 N/A drinks & the geartronic is well known for having issue.

The diesel V70 has the same gearbox as the petrol so something to think about when buying.

The seats in the Volvo are comfortable but so are the ones the Mondeo.

OP, are you really at risk of losing your mobility allowance? If so, the assessment criteria needs urgent review...
Yep, and annoyingly I was given DLA indefinitely, but that doesn't mean much any more just as most disabilities don't seem to to the lovely people at the DWP.I am liking the V70, bit bigger than what I was after (I did start looking at V50's) but seems a very nice place to be and the space would be nice as at least then if the need arose I could get a couple of chairs for other team members in.
It's amazing how much space 7-8 people, 7-8 basketball chair plus 5ish day chairs takes up

A further question.
At the moment I have a diesel, I'd like another as I like the power delivery. This car will stay with me probably till it's (or mine whichever comes first) last gasp.
With the way things seem to be shifting against diesel I don't want to be stuck with something I either won't be able to afford to tax or fill up, is this likely or am I just reading to much into this?
