Insurance has come around again and having all the problems with stolen cars the insurance is now far to expensive.
Looking at finally getting rid and having piece of mind and not having to worry about it being broken into or stolen (Again)

I really have no idea what im after, apart from id like it to be a good drive and not too small.
I'm playing with the idea of a older/less likely to be stolen car whilst I sort out my life at the end of uni! (2 months left!)

anyone had to move on from a Fiesta ST?

Im 26 with 1 year NCB and wanting to pay less than 800 a year for insurance!

Two routes
I can get a car on finance again (up to 10000)

or buy a car outright (2-3k)

Show me ideas!!!!
-Fun driving
-Quickish
-Cheaper insurance

Mechanically not at all. Only a faulty MAF sensor.

It got broken into in the day last year, cost me 1200 to get fixed and screwed my NCB.

any ideas for something to replace it?

Well my own runaround is a seat Leon fr, 57 plate so considered older now. It's a dsg and sticking it into sport and flooring it is some of the best fun I've had in a car, although it doesn't feel as nimble in corners as my previous fiesta zs. Decent size though and if i put the cruise control on and keep to 65-70 on longer journeys I can get just over 30mpg so best of both worlds. Seats aren't for everybody though and I'm ten years older than you so no idea what the insurance would be!

Buy something cheap and cheap to insure and run that for a couple of years while you NCB builds up. To be honest, stick it out until you finish university then bugger off abroad for a year or two and forget about cars.

Peugeot 208 gti's are supposed to be a decent rival to the ST,

less likely to be targeted by thieves so should be cheaper to insure and plenty available for less than £10k

another option is the Vw polo blue gt, ( I looked at these myself before deciding to go for an ST3 )

they're slightly down on power compared to the Fiesta, but still pretty quick, more eonomical and in blue with those 17" wheels a good looking car.

alternatively if you want to go cheap you could pick up a Suzuki swift sport,

they seem to be well regarded by most and can be had for a few thousand pounds

the 208 is actually in a higher insurance group! but i will double check!

and the polo GT demands a higher cost to purchase frown

What about a Mini Cooper S. Not the 07 facelift as they had some issues with the engines, but you could certainly get an older one, for a few thousand and save the rest.

That's all i'd be looking at to buy outright between 2-3k.

Financing up to £10,000 and the possibilities are endless really.

Did any of the cars I listed come back with sensible numbers insurance wise?

The Kia is an option but I just worry I'd struggle with owning a Kia, nothing against them I just thought that would be in a good 10years! My father has a Rio and I hate the interior. So cheap and awful but then you do get the warranty!

Hadn't even considered an alfa so I'd have to check them out further. Never really spoken to anyone who owned one! Are they any good?

The Clio is expensive and even more insurance wise as clios have a bad habit of being crashed. The first car I had was a 1.4 Clio, cost me 1100 to insure vs the 600 the ST3 first cost me hence why I got rid of it! This is around 1500 so far!

But the Fiesta ST is at least 5-6 grand more expensive to buy. It's all dependent on what you're happy to pay.

The Fiesta is also in very much the same category, unfortunately.

Take a seat in a GT they're a big step up from a Rio & they drive well too.

The Alfa is a personal favorite of mine the drivetrain is proving very reliable & robust as is the rest of the car, this & the Giulia are doing a good job of restoring some credibility to the Alfa brand.

It wasnt when i first bought it! was just about half what they are asking me to pay now.

and true, but i wouldnt go to the hassle of buying a new car, only to pay more for the insurance in the first place.

Now that is interesting! i had never even considered alfas. out of the three you linked, what are the major differences apart from 1.4 vs 1.8?
never thought alfa and robust would be used!! do you still get the great sound track?
