On the lookout for a track car/Weekend thrash when permitted etc... Got upto 1k for the car. Criteria is cheap parts, easy to work on So far I've shortlisted
Suzuki ignis sport
Ford puma 1.7
Renault clio sport

The idea is to get a feel for the standard car then see what could be improved on. Is there any cars I've overlooked?

Clio 172 Cup imho. Dead easy to work on, cheap bits, quick.

As above, no-brainer at that budget to be honest.

Another vote for 172. If you find one that just had the expensive cambelt kit change in that price range go for it.

If you want RWD, and are feeling brave, you might be able to find an RX8 for close to budget...

Oh, or, an early MK3 MR2. Surprisingly capable little things out of the box.

Thanks for suggestions. I did look at early mk3 mr2 and the odd rx8. In the end stuck to what I know best and put a deposit down on another iggy sport picking up next Saturday. Car is cheap and still leaves plenty of budget left over for track day fees, helmet purchase and maintenance items.

Idea is to learn how the car responds to my driving and see where I can improve the car and my driving along the way.
