I'm looking into ordering a new Tiguan. The model and options I have added have pushed the price £70 over the £40,000 price where the additional premium (£310 per year) kicks in for VED.

I know this is based on the list price NOT the discount price but my query is regarding what constitutes the list price. I'm convinced that it doesn't/shouldn't include the first years VED which is £830. If I take that off then the list price drops below £40,000. The salesman at my local VW dealer seemed to think it did include the first years VED.

Anyone help out?

I've searched online and not found anything conclusive. I've found an old government briefing document but I'm not sure if that still applies.

http://dvla.dft.gov.uk/ved/ved-reform-briefing2.pd... (page 3, table down the bottom right).

Jeez, the sales person from the dealership called me to tell me that he spoke to a senior sales person and got confirmation I'd be liable for the VED supplement rolleyes

I've emailed the DVLA to get confirmation in writing one or the other. You'd think sales people would be a bit more up-to-speed on the details around the products they're selling!

I would have thought its calculated in the same way a P11d value is, and that it excludes road tax etc.
