What 2wd pickup is reliable?
Discussion
Hi, im not sure if this is the best place to ask but would really appreciate any knowledge or if theres better places to ask the question please let me know.
I am hoping to pick up a 2wd pickup in the uk, something thats not to bad on fuel, good strong engine and under the £2000 mark.
Its not for going off road just for the pickup bed on the back. Iv seen a few mitsubishi l200 and ford rangers about but not to sure on there reliability, i know hilux have a good reputation michanicly but they seem to hold there price to well.
If any one has any experience or knowledge on some 4x2 pickups that would be real helpful.
Not to worried on age and millage aslong as i know she'll keep on trucking along.
Cheers in advance!

We've got an Isuzu which I picked up quite cheap. 2.5 diesel pulls like a train and it has a massive load area. Supposed to be pretty indestructible.
Ok thank you, i didnt even realise isuzu did a 2wd. Iv heard there michanicly solid before so i will look into that cheers.Mikeway94 said:

(It's on one of our farms)
We've had a few...
As above - Isuzus are generally tough. Toyotas, if you can find one for your budget are likely to be very ratty. I'd avoid Mitsubishis and Nissans - for your budget you're likely only be looking at those at high risk of catastrophic engine failure. The Ford/Mazda is tough and dependable.

Ill definitely keep looking into the isuzu then and see what i can find, do you know if theres any models that are better than other at all? As above - Isuzus are generally tough. I thought that about toyota, with them holding there value the only one in my budget seem to be very run down so id pretty much given up at looking for those. I really didnt know much about the mitsubishi, so they start to die off in the higher millage? Id heard similar things to that with the navaras, you have to be careful in which engine you get as some are prone to engine issues. Again iv not really heard much about mazda or really know if they do any diesels. With the ford i was thinking there could be a low millage ex council/ company pickup thats only been used for light work i might be able to find but id be told there known for over heating so wasnt sure how good they were.
Thanks for the advise

The Isuzu tf / vauxhall brava are very dependable pickups and only really suffer with suspension related issues.
Currently have both sat on the drive and they never fail to start and fulfill their duties.
The suspension wouldnt be too much of an issue as id be looking to change them out any way. Can i ask what are they like for getting hold of parts? As i read they can be expensive and tricky to get hold of?Currently have both sat on the drive and they never fail to start and fulfill their duties.
Also do they only come in 2.3l petrol?
Thank you.

No problems getting parts for them. Also do they only come in 2.3l petrol?
Thank you.
In regards to the 2.3 petrol? ive never seen a petrol one. We have the 2wd 2.5td (Brava) and the selectable 4wd 3.1td (TF)
Just had a quick look on eBay and there does seem to be some for sale that look half decent. Isuzu TF, Vauxhall Brava and Cheverolet LUV are all the same trucks with a different badge.
The Ford Ranger and Mazda B2500 are the same truck under the badge.
There are lots more diesels than petrols and also a lot more 4x4 than 4x2 models.
There are also a lot more Fords and Mazdas around than there are Isuzus...
All of these trucks tend to rot badly and most of the 4x4 versions spend 99% of their lives in 2wd mode. Consequently, I wouldn't exclude the 4x4s from your list of trucks to consider. If your budget is £2000, you'll just need to buy the least sh@gged out one you can find.
Good luck.
