Driving impressions: XC90 vs Santa Fe? Or just get an S-Max!

Hi all,
Appreciate this is a long shot and SUVs are not exactly PH. But hey!
Looking at 7 seaters at the moment and I have not quite reconciled myself to an S-Max although I recognise it is probably the best tool for the job.
I was wondering if anyone had driven both an XC90 in either 185bhp or 197bhp D5 form or a 2010 model year Sante Fe with the 194bhp 2.2 diesel.
I had a quick go in a 2009 185bhp xc90 auto and was disappointed to be honest but then I have never driven a large SUV before so maybe need to adjust expectation. It seemed very ponderous and the D5 was just, only just, in my opinion man enough for the job with nothing to spare.
Is the 197bhp revised D5 any better and is the Sante Fe better than them both?
For completeness I should probably ask what a 197bhp 2.2 S-Max is like compared to both.
Looking at cars around the £10k mark and coming from an e91 330d seeking more space and seats.
