Hoping for some advice here please.

After seeing the great deals available on the V90 R Design in the "Best lease deals" thread on here, I took a test drive and ordered a new V90 on PCH from a local dealer back in February - they just about matched one of the specialist brokers. The car was due end of March, however was delayed a couple of times and finally turned up towards the end of last week.

In the meantime I've sold my current car to a trade buyer a few days ago - got a good price but a fair way off what I would get in a private sale - was pushed for time due to the new one being ready to collect.

I was due to pick the car up today, however got a call a few hours before the arranged time saying it won't be possible as the support from Volvo for the discount (£10k they reckon) is no longer available. Volvo UK advised it is an issue for the dealer to resolve.

It looks likely that the dealer is going to back out, as there is no way they will take the hit on the car. For info I paid a deposit when we did the deal back in February, and nearly all interaction with the dealer has been via email.

Where do I stand - I'm currently without a car and absolutely fuming!

Hmmm. Dealer has dropped a bk here tbh.

If they had your order in and the finance approved then the manufacturer/lease company should honour the deal. Normally w are given very clear order/registration deadlines on deals and unless the dealer has cocked up and missed these then something should be sorted.

Have you called customer sevices yet? That would be my first port of call.

Have you delayed the collection at all or just the dealer doing so?

Yes order was in as I have the Volvo order emails with costs, order no and the options etc, this followed the finance approval.

Customer Services called the dealer on my behalf, but said ultimately it is an issue for the dealer to resolve.

The delays have been due to the delivery of the car - I haven't introduced any delays.

Seems very odd. I can’t see how the dealer has managed to cock it up TBH.

I don’t know how Volvo work, but customer services just saying ‘dealer needs to sort it’ is a pretty poor show and I wouldn’t personally let it rest there.

If the dealer got the order in, finance approved and didn’t cock up with the dates (which they should have known about and pre-empted this conversation) then someone of a higher power needs to sort it out.

You are right to be pissed off, I would be livid.

You need to check your contract and see what it says about a dealer being unable to supply the car or if they can terminate the contract before the car is supplied.

For them to take a 10k hit afraid it's two words.

No & hope.

But I can't work out how they only just realised the manufacturer support has been pulled surely that was all sorted when the finance docs were signed etc.

This is the issue - I left a deposit after we filled in the finance company documents on the computer, but I didn't physically sign anything. I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, as by not signing there aren't many Ts&Cs that could apply outside of the duty to supply the vehicle for a given price?

I only have experience with VWFS and they always have sent me physical forms that I have to sign and send back before they commit to the finance.

The only thing I can think of is they've left it to when the cars arrived to run the finance and the support has now finished

When you say deposit what do you mean?

Initial rental
Or
Document/broker/admin fee?

Can't believe the car is there and they've left it to the last minute to do this to you.

Really hope you get a good result.

They took a £500 deposit on the day I ordered. Refundable when the car is collected. No broker fees, Initial rental is 9 x monthly which I understood goes out the first month.

That there is £10k of support required for the deal and they are trying to establish where this is coming from, and that I can't collect the car. Salesman had done a runner by the end of the day, should know more tomorrow, but this is piss poor.

You need to find out if the dealer messed up by not registering the deal with Volvo in time

Or if Volvo messed up by not supplying the car in time

I suspect the former

You might have a claim for the difference between the cost of the deal you missed out on and the cost of the same car for the same period now

Have you been given the reg plate of the car? That would be an easy check if it is registered or not...

No idea if this is even at all possible, but could another dealer still have the funding available and be able to take the car off their hands?!

It may sound mad but could be worth a try?!

Will also let you know if they are chatting sh!t or not.

I also suspect the former!

Yes I have the reg plate, and was able to insure it on Monday. Askmid shows uninsured however - not sure if that means anything.

Just remind the dealer that a contract is in place and you expect them to fulfil it.

If they don't, you'd be perfectly entitled to get a car somewhere else and sue them for the extra cost.

I'd suggest the dealer has cocked up by not registering the car before the deadline.

What were the delays? Were they down to the dealer or Volvo themselves?

Build delays I believe, so Volvo.
